Just finished Soulless, which I gave 5 stars. This book is a must-read if you are a fan of costume dramas, Jane Austen, 19th Century England, parasols, or steampunk alongside vampires & werewolves.
Soulless takes place sometime in the mid to late 1800's in an alternate version on London, England. One where vampire nests & werewolf packs have their place in society. Alexia Tarabotti is a half-Italian spinster with no soul, which makes her a "preternatural" - someone with the inborn ability to neutralize the supernatural.
After being attacked by a mysterious rogue vampire at a high-society function, Alexia finds herself under scrutiny by London's supernatural set. Why are some supernaturals disappearing and strange vampires with no knowledge of ettiquite suddenly appearing? And why are they dressed so unbecomingly? And why did they have to upset the tea tray with the treacle tart? :-)

Oh Ann! I'm so jealous! I have a signed version, but to have a 1st edition!! *swoon* I just feel lucky to have met Anne when she visited the Sci-Fi Museum here in Seattle a handful of years back. She hasn't really traveled much during my adulthood so opportunities have been slim. I own and have read ALL of her books including the more elusive romances. :-)
