Stephanie wrote: "I am LOVING Deliverance Dane."I figured you would. You'll have to read The Heretic's Daughter also.
I just started Jodi Picoult's newest book,
House Rules. I usually am chomping at the bit to read her books as soon as they come out, but, for some reason, I wasn't as anxious this time around. I can't figure out why, either. I am really interested in the topic!
Jaime - I hope it starts to "get You" I finished last week and really like it. My mom is reading it now and said she can't put it down. I did not read her last book, "handle with Care" My mom and sister read it and were dissapointed. I have that one in my TBR read pile maybe one of these days.. I just finished Spellmans Strike Back ... Awesome. Now I am reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand which is delightful!! Happy Reading

I wouldn't say it was terrible, but definitely one of my least favorites of all her books. Have you read a lot of her books? They follow a "formula" and, for me, Handle With Care followed that formula too perfectly and was way too predictable.

"Oh, that's on my TBR, let us know how you like it!!
I'm partway through Hannah's Dream: A Novel which I am discovering is a wonderful little story so far.
Let me know what you think of The Lacuna. It is on my list to read, but I haven't heard to many good things.
Pulled one off the shelf that I bought awhile ago to read because of high praises it has received for many years.
.I hope I will enjoy it and see what many others have loved about it.
Patti wrote: "Let me know what you think of The Lacuna. It is on my list to read, but I haven't heard to many good things."I am enjoying it so far, & everyone I know who read it liked it....it is not a fast moving book, I can't read it as quickly as some books I have read....

OMG I read that so many years ago!!! I think I loved it, I am going to add it to my re-read list
Just started Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt and listening to Practical Demonkeeping from Christopher Moore
I'm reading two books. One has been on my shelf for quite a while, the other I added to my TBR after reading reviews and recommendations from my GR friends:
I absolutely loved The Sparrow. Please post when you're finished - I'd like to know what you think of it.
@ Lisa - I clicked on The Sparrow to add it to my to-read list and OF COURSE it was already on it. I wonder what percentage we are up to for book compatibility?!?!
I'm almost finished
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. I own this book, but somehow my copy is hiding from me, so I checked it out from the library. I can't figure out where my book went and no one fesses up to borrowing it. I hate when that happens.
I just started Anchee Min's Red AzaleaHeard her speak a couple of years ago - a fascinating woman.

Lisa,This happened to me so often that I started putting my address label in books I want back and keep the book jacket with the name of the borrower in pencil on the inside of the jacket.
I recently started The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I'm enjoying it so far. I am currently facilitating a civic group which is looking at the issue of immigration through literature, so I've been immersed in a multitude of related essays, short stories and poems. The groups are being run throughout the state by our Humanities Council. It's really interesting. One note on "The Sparrow", it was our absolutely favorite book group read in the 15 year history of the group. Hope you enjoy it.

I normally don't lend books I haven't read, but on occasion I will. Since I have about 400 books I own and haven't read, I feel selfish if I don't share. I also don't put my name in a book until after I read it. This just helps me recognize my "read" from my "to read" books.
Betsy wrote: "One note on "The Sparrow", it was our absolutely favorite book group read in the 15 year history of the group. Hope you enjoy it. ."I loved The Sparrow and really want to read the follow-up book. This is not my typical read, but I found the premise very thought provoking.
Stephanie wrote: "I am LOVING Deliverance Dane."Me, too! I had never heard of this, a few people mentioned it here, then I noticed it at the library the next day. Thought it was fate, so I took it to lunch and was hooked. Not having a lot of time for fun reading, so I'm getting through it slowly, but I'm really enjoying. Also listening to People of the Book right now and enjoying the parallels.
Lisa wrote: "I'm almost finished [bookcover:Firefly Lane. I sure hope you enjoy this book, as I sure did.. Moved me..to the point..even on vacation, visiting family, I couldn't put it down.
Helen, Firefly Lane made me very nostalgic for the 70's. I loved how Hannah mentioned the songs, clothing styles and T.V. shows of the times. There was one particular passage where a young Kate was caught up in reading a novel and Tully grabbed the book and asked how she could read about Wulfgar tying a woman to the bedposts. I got all excited because I knew that book,
. I remember that being the first naughty romance novel I ever read in junior high. I hid it from my mom. This was a fun read for me!

This series really hit its stride at book 3. I really liked books 1 & 2, but things heated up and the addition of new characters later in the series upped the ante.

I am about 80 pages into it, and am enjoying the story even though I am not into the whole vampire thing and haven't read any Twilight books. It kind of reminds me of the Stephanie Plum novels at this point, and I am not huge on those unless they are audio in the car. I will definitely keep reading because it has captured my interest, and am glad to hear that books 3 and on are really good.

I read an article about the author and her inspiration for this book. It was interesting and got me interested in reading the book. I think the article may have been in the free monthly book publication I get at the local libraries.
M C Beaton's
. This is my 2nd M C Beaton...and there will be more. Great little mysteries. And I'm not reading them in any particular order and I'm still ok. Each one is a new story unto itself.

Oh, I want to find this.
I won my first "first reads" giveaway. Yipee! I have just begun My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira complements of Viking Press and Penguin Books. It's a civil war epic of a young woman with a multi-generational family history of providing excellent midwifery care in Albany New York who desires to go to medical school to learn more about caring for patients as a surgeon. Of course, it is 1862 and being a woman she is met with great resistance to her heart's desires. Very reminiscent of the theme of "The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate" that I just read with my daughter. Anyways, I look forward to Mary Sutter's adventurous journey as she heads to the battlefields to learn skills first-hand.This book has that allure of medicine and surgery to me as I work as on operating room nurse. I am sure I will be shocked and interested and reading about surgical care being provided in war-torn situations.
Oh. My. Gods.
Pulled an easy read off of the bookshelf here at home. Interesting premise: H.S. Senior heads to Greek Island w/ Mom and new StepDad to live amongst, go to school with and know, presumably, Greek Gods and their descendants. Enjoyable so far . . .
Well, it's not a book, but I just read my newest copy of "Bookmarks" magazine. And, um, I've added to my list of TBRs -- oh no! ;-D
I just started The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy. I was drawn in by the title referencing, yet, another fairy tale. The story I gather is not of a light fairy tale, in the least. Hope this one is good.I began Loving Frank by Nancy Horan downloaded from the library via Overdrive (love it!) and then to the Ipod after completing The Women for bookclub this month. I was fascinated by the Frank Lloyd Wright story and wanted more, including for this FLW tale to be a better read than its predecessor.
