Cheryl (ghemomma) | 80 comments One of my favorite movies is Lost In Austen. It is about a young woman, Amanda Price, who lives in present day London and she loves the book Pride and Prejudice. Amanda has read it probably hundreds of times since she was a girl and is in love with Mr. Darcy (who isn't, right?). One day Elizabeth Bennet shows up in Amanda's apartment and shows her a secret door that opens up to the Bennet's home. Elizabeth convinces Amanda that they are to switch places so that Elizabeth enters the modern day world and Amanda goes back in time and enters the world of the Bennet family. Amanda enters just before the Bennet girls are to meet Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy.

It is such a fun and cute movie but let me warn you, if you are a die-hard Pride and Prejudice fan you may not want to see it because the story line does end up changing! I love it though!!

So, if you could switch places with one of the characters from a book, who would it be with and why?

Hmm, dare I say Jessica Trent from Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

or

Evangeline Jenner from Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas

or

Leda Etoile from The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale.

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 80 comments Well Danielle, I've not read LoS or TSatS, so I cannot comment on that. BUT, I agree with you on trading with Evangeline from DiW, St. Vincent is Yummy!! I could have some fun with him! ;)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 80 comments Probably top on my list would be to switch with Penelope Featherington from Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. I absolutely LOVE the Bridgerton family and would like to be part of their family. Colin was my favorite Bridgerton!

Next would be Katherine Huxtable from Then Comes Seduction by Mary Balogh. I fell in love with Jasper from the first page of that book. He is so funny and charming.

Then I would say Amanda Briars from Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas. Jack Devlin was just smokin' hot! He and I could definitely heat things up! Mmm,mmm, mmmmmm!

Sharon (fiona64) Thursday Next. The Eyre Affair and Lost in a Good Book are both brilliant, and the remainder of the Jasper Fforde novels are high on my TBR list.

Second choice would be Celia in Green Darkness (I picked the link with the cover I had in my youth; I now have a hardback.) I think this book is why I became so fascinated with historical reenactments (I started out doing Tudor era).

Terri (brookfield) it would have to be any of the ladies in the Boscastle series by j Hunter cause all the men were hot and good looking and sexy. Those ladies were very lucky

Kelly | 29 comments For me it would be Claire from Outlander. Although I would not care for the danger, death and dirt. I would love just one day and night with James Fraser!!!!

Me too! Me too!;-) I was thinking the exact same thing. Going back in time like that would scare the living daylights out of me, but Jamie would be worth it. Yuuuummmmm!

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 80 comments This is so great! There are so many books that you all have mentioned that I have not only not read but never even heard of as well! My TBR is about to be out of control! :)

So there are several mentions of Outlander. I have been trying to decide if I want to take that on.

And I know what you mean about going back in time scaring you, maybe if we could be guaranteed our safety and if we could bring some of our modern conveniences with us it would make it even more intriguing!

Time travel would be interesting, but definitely scary, like you said. I think we'd probably die of massive bacterial infections if we went back to the middle ages or medieval times. Things are a lot cleaner than they were. Our systems couldn't handle the dirty food, dirty people, poor sanitation, etc.

Exactly. It's really easy to over-romanticize the tidily presented version of the past that we see in romance novels or in movies. It wasn't pretty, for the most part. Becoming a reenactor taught me a lot.

Furthermore, taking "modern conveniences" along (for instance, an aspirin) might well result in significant problems -- in medieval times, you might be hanged/burned/ducked/pressed as a witch.

Yikes!

That said, I still think that Celia Bohun is one of the neatest characters I've ever read (see earlier post).
