message 1052: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I have 60 pages to read to finish NP and the library called that a book I reserved came in so went in for that one (I alex cross by Patterson) and went to put two other books on reserve and one (Heatwave by Castle) was on the shelve. So will be starting the patterson book and letting my sister read the Castle book then we will switich. The Castle book looks like a fast read.

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments I finished book 12 two days ago.

message 1054: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) I was doing so well finished a book in 2 days on a weeknight instead of the four/five days and then my evenings got busy and couldn't read another book!!!

My social life is normally non existent s I usually read !!

Like the tv show? It's based on a series?

message 1056: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo It's the book that is with Nicky heat that they talk about on the show.

message 1057: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I am kind of stalled right now. I am reading a good book right now, just too tired to read much of it.

message 1058: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I didn't have time to read this week, but I have 3 audio books in progress. And I have four hours in the car tomorrow and then another four to come back home on Sunday, so I should be able to finish at least two of them.

Vicky, I have a Carolyn Hart book I picked up at a library sale and it's been sitting on my shelf for ages. I don't think I've actually ever read her before. The one I have is Southern Ghost; it sounds really good and looks like a fast read. I really hope I can get to it next month.

message 1060: by Kasa (new)

Kasa Cotugno | 12 comments The number advances quickly when I read 200-300 p;aged books, but slows considerably with weightier material. Since I want to focus on quality rather than quantity, I may fall short of the mark -- e.g., the 2 I'm reading now are respectfully 500+ and 600+ pages.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Finished #11 for the month and two that are half done. I worked it out that I'm averaging 312 pages per day so far this month. That's about five and a half hours a day spent reading instead of sleeping/watching TV/anything else. It may even be longer as I generally read less than a page a minute.

In the grand scheme, I'm halfway done with April for the 144 pace.

message 1062: by Kasa (new)

Kasa Cotugno | 12 comments I have all today to read The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, Stieg Larssen's 3rd installment of his magnificent trilogy that started with Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I was so impatient, I ordered it from the UK for big bucks so as not to wait, and it is well worth the investment. On Kindle), I'm also reading Ted Kennedy's memoir -- another one over 500 pages. It will slow down my quota, but worth it.'

message 1063: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments Kasa, let us know how The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is, I am anxious for it to come to the US so I can read it.

message 1064: by Kasa (new)

Kasa Cotugno | 12 comments I'm about 1/3 of the way through -- it hit the ground running and hasn't slowed down yet.

I have that on my tbr (I live in the uk and been out ages)

When you finished let us know how you found it

I am totally jealous that you are reading it.

message 1067: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I need to get some reading done and start getting back to finishing books. I just can't seem to finish anything. And now with the library books that is going to slow me down again. Now it's Patterson I Alex Cross and it's large print and for some reason they seem to take me longer. Don't know why. Maybe I can finish NP first and at least one book will be finish I'm so close to finishing that one.

NP? Whats that?

message 1069: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo NP is the name of the Banana Yoshimoto book I'm reading. What a title. I know I read someplace in the book what the NP stands for. And I noticed there is a trivia question on goodreads asking which of the things it was. And I couldn't locate where it said it in the book to answer. It is a good book. I'm kind of sorry I got rid of her other ones when I moved. I was doing the picking and choosing thing back then with unread books. Had to get rid of alot so had to pick decide which I would read and which I wouldn't. So I only kept this one and one other.

I just finished it last week and am so sad that there will be no more to to look forward to. How did you get a copy in the US? Someone told me that you could order it from Amazon UK but then someone else said that that was untrue. I'm just curious. A friend brought my copy back from Europe.
I enjoyed every page of that book!

Kasa Cotugno | 12 comments I had to order it from amazon.uk. Pricey because of shipping, but worth it.

message 1074: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I finally finished NP. Now I just have to update and add it here. Also read a few chapters more of the patterson book. I took the Johansen book off the current list of reads since I was only in one page. Now it's only 3 books on the list. Two of them is just in the back.

message 1075: by Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (new)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) I just finished #35-Smash Cut by Sandra Brown. Probably the best Sandra Brown book I have read. It was a gripping story from start to finish.

message 1076: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 98 comments Ivy, Southern Ghost is part of her Death on Demand series. It involves a bookstore owner in So. Carolina, I think and she solves mysteries. I like her better than Joanne Fluke, Jill Churchill, Jo DeReske, and Tamar Myers. I hope her new series is as good.

message 1077: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I just started #42. Deadly Night

message 1078: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C Well I just hit 24 books, lol, so now I can start my March reading. lol. Man, February put me behind. lol. The read-a-Thon should help bring me up to date.

Catherine Three cheers for the Read-A-Thon!!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Colleen, live more. It's sleep and TV that you can give up.

Jessica | 20 comments I originally thought I might not be able to accomplish 144 books this year, but it seems I underestimated myself. I just finished reading my 73rd new book for 2010, and I am at 30 re-read books. I'm glad for this group, so that I have a record of all these books I seem to have read in such a short amount of time. Otherwise I might not have believed it!

message 1084: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I just finished #34 31 Bond Street by Ellen Horan. A very good murder mystery set in New York City and based on real events.

message 1085: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Started #43 last night. Sleeping with Strangers

message 1086: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (luvbug) I finally finished the book that was giving me so much trouble. It was a good book, I just couldn't seem to find the time to sit and really read...everything kept getting in the way. I have started another book that should be a quick read since it is only a little over 100 pages long.

message 1087: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm hoping to get some good reading in today. Got the library book my sister had that I had to read yet. So i hope I get that read fast. Then it's back to my own books. Yesterday didn't get any reading done was out all most of the day.

message 1088: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 87 comments PhotoJim I like your idea. From now on I will only sleep 4 hours per night.

message 1089: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) Sleeping only 4 hours a night would work for me for only 1 or 2 days. I would be exhausted!! But I know some people can do it, I just am not one of them. Just thinking of that little sleep makes me want to take a nap. :)

did you say 73rd?

And that 30 rereads? so s far you have read 103 books in 3 months?

Why would you have thought you couldn't meet the the target?

message 1091: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 87 comments I was kind of joking, at my age (43) you really need more than 4 hours a night. When I was in my 20's...now that was a different story ;)

Somehow I thought I would be more busy, have less time to read this year. It seems the only good thing about unemployment is the excess in reading time :) All morning spent sending out resumes, and the rest of the day in books.

I am relieved to hear that.:) I was thinking I must be getting old, but then you always here about people needing less sleep as they get older, not more.

Jessica I am right there with you in the land of unemployment. I haven't been posting what number of book I am on as I didn't want others to feel bad about where they were, but I will reach the 144 goal over the weekend. I honestly can say I would rather not be this far and too busy working, but that is not the case in my life. I have taken to upping my goal since I do have the extra time, but again would give it up in a heartbeat to find a job.

message 1097: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) Afsana ~ Sadly I'm not. It seems like I can get interviews, even make it to the second or third round, but just can't land the job. It is enough to drive me nuts or just escaping into a good book. :)

keep at it!

enoy the reading while you can

message 1099: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I had to give up on Sleeping with Strangers. I've never quit a book before but this one just wasn't cutting it with me. So since I didn't read it all I won't count it. I have since started 13 1/2 which will be #43.
