Catherine I finished a book! I was starting to think I would never finish a book again. The Kingsbridge Plot by Maan Meyers. I finished it about 10 minutes before the library closed ... luckily I only live about 5 minutes from there. I hurried down to return it. They didn't charge me a late fee even though it was almost a week late!! Now I can finish The Inn At Eagle Point by Sherryl Woods.

message 602: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Try Nora's Chesapeake series or the garden I forgot what she called them one but they are two of my favorite series of her's.

I really enjoyed it (I love photography so that helped), I am very anxious to read the rest of the series. I may be a bit biased too as Nora Roberts is among my top authors

Don't worry- somee months bad others will be good!!

Also Try audio!!

message 609: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy (vilette) | 208 comments I made my goal of 12 for January and finished #13 this morning on audio so I guess I will have a few in hand should I read less next month. Many of the books I read are rather dense in content so some will take me longer. On to the next...or rather back to the one I abandoned temporarily to fit in a couple of library books.

I'll have to check that one out. Thanks for the recommendation.

message 611: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo That one I haven't read yet but have the book. I even have the movie from when it was on Lifetime. Didn't want to see the movie until I read the book.

message 612: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I just finished #12 today.

message 613: by Linda (new)

Linda I'm new to this bookclub & just started a few days ago, at first wasn't gonna keep bk. list but changed my mind. My problem is I just don't want to read just anything because if I have a boring book or something I don't like I'm compelled to finish it. So, I've been perusing other members what they are reading & looking them up on Barnes & Noble website for synopsis so I have an idea what book is about. I've picked up several different authors names I never heard of so I have alot TBR to add to my list.

message 614: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Just finished #15. Next is #16 Haunted Ground: A Novel.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments 10 Down and only 134 more to go. Two more are started. I'm off tomorrow and it is laundry day. Surely I can get another done then.

message 616: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) January is done : )

Now working on the count for Feb.

message 617: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments Good for you Teresa.

message 618: by [deleted user] (new)

Half way through book #11. Oh boy, Sunny threw a twist into Mona Lisa Craving. I'm loving it!

message 619: by KimWin (new)

KimWin | 97 comments I am doing very well on my goal. Actually, I probably read more than 144 a year. I just finished number 10 of January and 11 & 12 are already in progress. I didn't like one book much and started others while trying to get into the first book. So, I ended up with 3 books going on at once.... It is sometimes confusing in my world.

message 620: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Usually I find alot of books to movies are like that. I've seen them all except that one and if you don't compare them to each other it's okay.

message 621: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments just finsihed book 6 Sworn to Silence by: Linda Castillo. Not sure what book I'm reading next. I haven't decided.

message 622: by Jen (new)

Jen | 287 comments I'm quite surprised at how well I've done this month so far. I've got 6 full days left and have finished 11 books. Maybe I'll get a head start to help out with February being a short month!

message 623: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Just finished #16 (Cold Pursuit). Trying to get into Haunted Ground: A Novel, but just can't get there.

message 624: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debmcg) | 2 comments I have read 6 books so far in 2010. I am currently on my 7th book No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay.

I am very busy during the months of January & February at work so I am hoping I will be able to read more come March.

message 625: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cmbohn) I read No Time for Goodbye last year. It was good.

I'm reading How to Cook Everything, The Eye of the World and listening to Dance Hall of the Dead. I'm already at 20 books for the year, not counting those 3.

message 626: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments hum Cindy--what is Dance Hall of the Dead like? And what's it about? PN, UF, humour?

message 627: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cmbohn) It's a mystery set in Navajo country. A couple of boys disappear after one of them has said that the kachinas are after him. I'm enjoying it.

message 628: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) I am reading Ghostland good so far and will make me hit a milestone in the challenge.

message 629: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I'm feeling very discouraged. I haven't had time to read at all lately. I thought January would be a good month for me but now I don't even think I'm going to make my monthly goal.

Catherine don't get discouraged. I am sure there will be a month coming up where you blow past your goal. I would still just keep reading and have fun!!

message 631: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Thanks Darcy. I hope to get some reading done this weekend. And I am making progress on my audio book, I just don't get to spend as much time listening as I would like.

message 632: by Kim (new)

Kim I have 2 books left to read to stay on target and the one I started last night is going to be a quick read I think. The next one I have on my list is likely to be more thought provoking- so I might pick one of my favourite authors to read instead!

message 633: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) this is only the first month!! too early to be discouraged we can do it!!

message 634: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) 18 down 126 to go. Next at #19 The Eleventh Victim

message 635: by Rachel (new)

Rachel 18?! Holy moly!!

message 636: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I just finished #13 The Hunger Games which was an awesome book!

message 637: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I finished #8 last night and started on #9 & #10. I probably won't make 12 for the month, but maybe I'll do better next month.

message 638: by Edith (new)

Edith | 34 comments I'm currently working on #5 & #6 and am scheduled to finish them this weekend. I'm hoping to pick up #7 from the library tomorrow. I know I won't make the 12 this month but I'm really enjoying the books that I've read so far so I'm staying positive.
I'm really impressed with everyone's progress!

message 639: by Caitrin (new)

Caitrin (literarydependent) 17 down! I'm glad I have so much in this month, which gives me wiggle room for a month when I read longer books or dont' have as much time.

I usually read a couple books at a time so I have no idea which I'll finish first for #18! Hopefully it will be by the 31st though :D

message 640: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) Finished 9. Reading 2 more right now. I can read a lot more when I finish school (around 1st week of May). I think an average of a book every 3 days is pretty good for someone with a full-time job who is attending school and has a 2-yr-old.

message 641: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Just finished #19 The Ice Child and starting #20 Jury of One.

message 642: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) Im still on book 6! Im really slow this month. Guess Ill have to make it up next month.

message 643: by [deleted user] (new)

Now that school started (taking 17 credits) I'm now going to fall behind. Big time. But luckily I should at least make the 12 books for this month. That will keep on track for at least the first month. I'm proud of that. I've never read 12 books in one month before. Props for month one!!!

that is good-am so impressed. I have been temping last 2 weeks and my reading has slowed down so much and thats just with full time hours and a 3 yr old

message 645: by Connie (new)

Connie (grundig) | 57 comments If I finish the book that I am currently reading, it will be my 11th book for the month of January. I have a feeling I will finish it because I can't put it down.

message 646: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I don't know if this is the place to put this question but I was curious where most of you get your books from. Library, bookstore, online, is it a kindle or other type of ereader, from friends, etc?
Me I mostly buy. I rather read my own books. I do the library for certain newer ones but hate dealing with due dates for books. Even though I usually would have no problem in finishing them by then. In the summer I sometimes to get a used book store also which we don't know anymore of by me so when I get to the shore I'll call ahead and tell her the books I'm looking for and then go over and pick them up. Also I get them at flea markets or places like that sometimes if I see them. I also now have the kindle software on my ipod touch so have been downloading free books. I figure this is a test to see how much use I would get out of it and if it's worth buying at a later date.

I mainly buy mine either from the store of the book clubs that I am a member of. Another person and I swap books through the mail. I also get some of my books through PaperBackSwap.com.

message 648: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Mine is probably comfort. I find the longer I stay away the worst I am when I go. But I'm been trying real hard at resisting the impluse of going as much as I go. As it stands I probably won't get all my unread books read. I'm doing better on resisting hcs unless they discounted or one or two certain authors. But now there is trade size which is just as worst. So have to stop resisting more on buying those now.

message 649: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) I would love to buy my books, but unfortunately I can't afford my habit even if I get them at the used books store. So I end up a heavy library user, to the point where I know know most of the librarians at my library and talk to them for a half hour each time I go in for books and they ask me for suggestions.

"I buy and I utilize library. My books are stockpiling and I don't have enough room....so I find myself using library more due to cramped space. I prefer to own because I have no problem re-reading my books several times but library is good, too!"
