"There was quite a bit of noise coming from Rebecca's room earlier," Jacob explained. "Noise that suggested that she and Zach were enjoying themselves a great deal."

"Oh." Susannah said, looking back at Rebecca. "Interesting."
Rebecca was blushing furiously. "Oh please it's not like you two haven't," she shot , trying to turn the attention away from herself. "I bet Billy's been dying for a pair of earplugs ever since you've been married."
Susannah's face turned as red as her hair.
Rebecca finally finished her decent down the stairs and went to the kitchen it get her water. "So what are you three talking about?" She asked. "Anything interesting ?"
"Christian has a crush on Sabrina." Susannah said."Oh great! Let's just put it in the newspaper guys, really." Christian said sarcastically.
"Oh relax it's not like she's here," Rebecca said. "But I'd act quick if I were you, before you loose your chance to Alek." "That's what I told him,"Jacob agreed.
"If you want I can run upstairs and check Zach's phone for her number for you," Rebecca offered.
Rebecca padded back up to her room and returned a few minutes later in a pair of pajama, with Zachs phone in hand. "Alright," she said pulling up the recent calls, it only took a minute to figure out which one was Sabrina based on the time stamp. Once she located it she read the numbers off to Christian. "So are you gonna call her now?" Rebecca asked. "Because I for one think you should.""Agreed," Jacob encouraged.
"I guess you're right." Christian said, standing and heading upstairs. "I'll be back."
"Come on dude," Rebecca said. "You have to do it down here.""We're all involved in this now," Jacob nodded. "We have to see how it plays out."
"That's ridiculous." Christian said, but he stopped and sat on the stairs and dialed her number."Hello?" Sabrina answered after a few seconds. "Who's this?"
"H - hey Sabrina." Christian said. "It's Christian, from school."
"Christian. . .Rebecca's brother?" Sabrina asked.
"Yeah, Rebecca's brother." Christian replied. "So. . .um. . .I noticed that you moved to town relatively recently, and I was wondering if you wanted to get to know it a little better. Like, maybe we could hang out tomorrow or something, and I could show you around. . .or. . .something. And, yeah, I mean, I know it's not a big town or anything, but, you know, still. It could be fun. If you're not busy, or anything. Or if tomorrow doesn't work for you, another day maybe. Or - or maybe I should just let you answer." Christian said, finally shutting up.
Sabrina's laughter could be heard throughout the room. "You're funny. Sure, why not? I don't really have anything else to do tomorrow anyway."
"Alright, cool. See you at around noon then, I'll pick you up." Christian hung up the phone, and sighed.
"You forgot to ask for her address so you can pick her up tomorrow," Jacob pointed out. "But don't worry," Rebecca said. "I was over there last night, I'll give it to you."
"Crap, now I have to figure out what to wear and where we're going." Christian said, hopping to his feet. "I'll see you guys later, only call me if there's an emergency." he added, racing up the stairs.
"Does tha fact that he was supposed to help figure out what's going on with Susannah tomorrow count as an emergency?" Jacob asked. "Probably not in his head," Rebecca laughed.
"It'll be fine." Susannah said. "It can wait until the next day."
"Alright then," Jacob said. Rebecca got up to go back to bed. "Night guys," she said. "You can crash here if Susannah's too tired to head back."
"I think I can make it back." Susannah said, leaning heavily on the armrest of the couch to stand.
Susannah nodded, and started walking slowly to the door.
Jacob slid an arm around her waist and leaned a lot of her weight on him to help her walk.
Susannah hated how much she needed his help, but accepted it gratefully nevertheless, not wanting to overexert herself and cause him any more worry.
Jacob half carried Susanbah back to the reservation.
By the time they got back to the reservation, a thin sheen of sweat covered Susannah's skin and she was flushed as if she had just been through some kind of strenuous exercise and not a walk that a week ago would have left her ready for a good run.
"Maybe we should stick with me carrying you until we know what's up," Jacob suggested.
Susannah shook her head stubbornly. "I'm fine." Susannah said. "A little fatigue never killed anyone."
"Fatigue actually kills plenty of people," Jacob said.
"I said a little." Susannah said. "Not chronic."
Jacob shrugged and opened the door. "Yeah well, better safe then sorry."
"Whatever." Susannah said, falling onto the couch, exhausted.
"Why don't you sleep in my bed babe?" Jacob said. "I'll sleep here, and you'll be more comfortable."
"Why don't you sleep with me?" Susannah asked.
"Because my bed's really small, and you'll be more comfortable without me in it," Jacob said.
"I highly doubt it." Susannah said. "But if that's the case, why don't we sleep in my room?"
"It's connected to the garage, where Adrian is."
"That's right, I forgot." Susannah said.
Jacob lifted Susannah off the couch and carried her to his room.
Susannah wrapped her arms around his neck while he carried her.
Jacob laid her down and helped her change for bed.
Susannah was quiet the whole time completely frustrated at her absolute helplessness.
Jacob pulled the blankets over her and kissed her head. He sat on the edge of the bed and lightly rubbed her back.
Susannah took his hand and clasped it in hers tightly, or as tight as she could, her hand trembling slightly.
Jacob closed his hand around around hers, holding it lightly. "What's wrong baby?" He asked.
"I'm afraid to be by myself." Susannah admitted quietly.
Jacob scooped her up in his arms and moved her around so he could lay with her.
Susannah curled up close to him. "Thank you." she whispered.
"Of course love," Jacob said. He slid his hand under her shirt and brushed his fingers, soothingly, across her back.
"I love you," Jacob said, kissing her head.
