"Maybe," rebecca said. "But I don't know maybe I'm paranoid but I'm suspicious of her."

"Suspicious? Why? All I've picked up from her is that she likes to talk. A lot." Zach said.
"I'm nit sure but something about her just doesn't feel right."
"You know who doesn't feel right? That Balthazar dude. I mean, he seems ok, but he just seems...too ok, you know? Like there's something missing." Zach said.
"Yeah thats true," Rebecca said. "They both seem a little off."
"Yeah...but why, though?" Zach asked.
"I'm not sure," Rebecca said. "But I have a feeling that we may know soon enough."
"Hopefully. I think it's better to know sooner rather than later...if there's anything to find out." Zach said.
Rebecca just nodded as they walked in to school.
After giving Rebecca a kiss on the cheek, Zach headed to his class as soon as they entered the building.
Rebecca waved and also went to her class.
Zach sat in class. Half of his attention was on the teacher, while the other half was waiting for the bell.Balthazar and Adrian sat in their respective classrooms, each aware of the part they were to play later that day.
Rebecca was not paying attention but still absorbing what was being said.
Zach's fingers started to drum on the desktop.
When the bell rang Rebecca was up and out in a second, but still being careful not to be too fast.
Zach also left.Susannah got up to leave. Balthazar, looking like Caleb this time, met up with her, and steered her towards the library, claiming to need help studying chemistry. While they went one way, Adrian, looking like Susannah, was the one that stepped out of the school that afternoon.
Jacob walked up to Susannah as she walked out and kissed her. "Hey," he smiled.
"Hey." Adrian said, smiling, something in her eyes looking troubled.
"Is something wrong?" Jacob asked.
Adrian sighed as if she'd feared this conversation. "Can I talk to you? In the woods?" she asked.
"Yeah sure," Jacob said taking her hand.
Adrian walked with him a few yards into the woods before stopping and turning to face him. "Ok, Jacob, I'm not sure how to tell you this, so I'm just going to spit it out, ok?"
"Susannah what's wrong?" Jacob asked worriedly.
"I...I don't think we should date anymore." she said.
Jacob's stomach twisted into knots and he grabbed on to the nearest tree for support with one hand and clutching at his stomach with the other. His head shook back and forth, "No, no, no, no, no," he whispered again and again. "Oh god no please not this."
"I'm sorry, Jacob." Adrian said, though she wasn't sorry at all. "I think it's for the best."
"Please Susannah I swear I didn't know it was Tara," Jacob begged. "Please just don't do this to me."
"It's not just Tara, Jacob. It's this whole combination of things that have been building up. My anger at you for trying to leave me with the mord sith. Even though the reason for that was determined, the resentment was still there. My anger when you scratched me, because you couldn't control yourself. Tara was nothing but an annoyance, but you let it control you. The way you keep referring to me as a 'pyro'. I'm not a 'pyro'. I'm a firestarter. And then of course, the Tara thing, because why would I cover your eyes? I used to like to see your eyes, Jacob. It wasn't until after you left that I realized all the hurt I felt at seeing you with Tara wasn't hurt. It was an instinctive reaction. What I felt was relief. Relief that maybe I wouldn't have to break it off this way, but once again, Jacob, you prove to be inadequate." Adrian said.
"I told you Susannah I never tried to leave you there," Jacob said quietly. "I told you that I was trained so that I couldn't say that it wasn't true. And I only called you a Pyro before I knew what you were called. Because quite simply pyro is having to do with flame. And the time I scratched you the time I couldn't control myself, you can't imagine how infuriating it was, her there saying how much better for me she was than you. You don't understand how perfect you are in my eyes and how much I wanted to rip her throat out for saying that you were anything less than that."
"That is unfortunate Jacob. Really it, is. Maybe if you'd been more open with me, helped me to understand, this moment could have been avoided. But what's done is done, despite any reasons for it, and we're over." Adrian said.
It was like the air was getting thicker, and Jacob was finding it hard to breath. "There's something wrong here," he said slowly. "Something with this moment."
"Something like what?" Adrian asked, putting some honest curiosity in her voice, as if she'd been momentarily distracted by him from the current situation as she'd seen Susannah do so many times before.
"Like how cold you were being," Jacob said hating to use that word to describe Susannah. "And how even though hearing those words in your voice is the most painful thing that has ever happened to me, the urge to always be around you isn't subsiding."
Adrian's eyes narrowed. As much as she would have rather just beat him up and gone home, she had to do this the Susannah-way. So, under the narrowed eyes, she let a bit of pain seep in. There was also a hint of pain in her voice when she said, "Really? What do you think could cause that?"
{{Hold on I'm confused. Caused what?? he said two things were out of place. Which one is she talking about.}}
{{Oh ok.}}"Susannah if there is ever a time when you truly no longer love me I will walk away. I wont be happy about it but I will. But please if there is any part of you that still loves me please let me stay."
"Maybe there is." Adrian admitted quietly, looking at the floor. Then she looked up at him. "A part of me that loves you." she clarified. "But things are confusing right now, and I don't want to risk my feelings getting slapped around because of what I see. Or your feelings, for that matter. If things get better, then maybe we can talk, but right now? Right now there's not a speck of a chance that we can be together."
"Susannah don't do this," Jacob said. "Don't do this to either of us."
"Do you remember how many times I've tried to cut it off before? Those times were really good practice, because right now I hardly feel anything at all. Is it there? Is there any pain or regret? I don't know, but if I can't feel it, then it's fine. So, really I'm only doing this to you, and for that I really am sorry, but...I just don't think its going to work." Adrian said.
Jacob looked at who he thought was Susannah for one more long moment his eyes looking like someone was performing an autopsy on him while he was wide awake. Then without another word he ran and before he was out of sight he was a wolf and he howled a howl of pure anguish.
It was a pretty loud howl and Adrian was cursing herself for not taking him farther off into the woods because she was certain Susannah would hear it from the school.And Susannah had heard. When she heard the wolf, her head shot up from the book she was reading and out the window where she only saw trees.
"Something wrong?" Balthazar asked.
"I thought I heard...the most horrible howl." Susannah said.
"Really? I didn't hear anything." Balthazar said, also mentally cursing Adrian. She always worried about him messing up, but it was she who had slipped this time.
Jacob ran as hard as he could he didn't care when he bumped into trees and they wobbled as if the might fall he didn't care about anything anymore.
When he figured Adrian should have finished breaking up with Jacob by now, Balthazar said, "Want me to walk you home?" "Sure, Caleb." Susannah said smiling, and they waked to her house together, Balthazar being careful to take her a way that never had them get too close to the woods.
Jacob didn't stop not for a long time. Until he finally collapsed under a tree somewhere in Canada and couldn't get back up. He was doing it again trying to out run everything. The only difference was this time he didnt think he was ever going back. Then he felt Kahlan shift and he didnt have time to conceal his thoughts about Susannah. Oh my god what happened???? Kahaln thought in shock.
Please just leave me alone, Jacob replied.
After dropping Susannah off, and shifting back into himself, Balthazar went home. Susannah went to her room, and started on some homework, completely unaware that there was anything wrong.
Kahlan shifted back, went to Susannah's house, and knocked on the door.
Susannah answered the door with a smile. "Hey, Kahlan, what's up?" she asked.
"Can we go for a walk in the woods real quick I need to talk to you," Kahlan said sweetly incase Susannah's mom was home.
"Sure." Susannah said, closing the door as she started walking. "What do you want to talk about?"
