Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. This book (all hers are) was so cool - just plain ol' neat. They are quirky, unique, warm, funny and charming. If anyone has read her books and knows of another author who is similar, please let me know. T. L.
Magic Kingdom For Sale/Sold is one of my all-time favorite humorous fantasy books. So funny (and the rest of the series is great, too)
Odds AgainstI first started reading Dick Francis mysteries a few years ago and once I read one, I couldn't stop. I think I've read just about all of them now, but this is the one I started with.
The publisher put this book in the historical fiction genre (I think), but to me it doesn't fit nicely into that pigeonhole. If you're into star travel, Mayan culture, time travel, or anything Meso-American, you will love this book. It's one of those that you can envision being an epic movie.Zero Time

Paula - I have read ALL of the Dick Francis books (the ones he actually wrote - not the one with his son). They are super fabulous.
One of my favorites is Bolt - but read Break In first. Bolt is the second novel with Kit Fielding in it. Break In Bolt.
"Sunrise & Blood" Strong female MCs throughout the story.

The Passing
Grief is the Thing with Feathers A very inventive way to tell a story. You'll either love it or hate it. :-)
For a diverse, award-winning, 5-star, emotionally exhausting, hidden gem... read the anthology: "Through Button Eyes".

Solar Bones, Mike McCormackLit fiction, in the tradition of 100 Years of Solitude, this book reads like it came out of the author in one breath.
Scythe! Neal Shusterman, although his other stuff is sometimes an acquired taste. Excellent 5 star dystopian book, and it's YA, which might put some of you adult readers off, but it's a thinker-book. Let's put it this way - I kept considering some of the 'bad' guy's theories as legitimate...
If Vincent is going to limit us to only one book per entry, then I'll have to start with The Count of Monte Cristo. My library wouldn't feel complete without a copy on the shelf. The Count of Monte Cristo
I would recommend just about any of Cassandra Clare's
The Mortal Instruments
books, or just about the entire Shadowhunter Chronicles sequence in the extended world of TMI. The fantasy world of the story is really nicely developed, almost every character in the stories get their own story and development arc, and the interpersonal relationships in the story are interestingly complex. So yeah, this is what I recommend.Book 1 of the series: City of Bones
The Midnight Sky Series by Jan Ruth. If you enjoy realistic romance and love animals (particularly horses), you will love these books!
