R.K. King (rkking) | 10 comments Hi folks,

My first novel Eye Of The Storm is out now.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBQKKQU

It's a post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure that avoids some of the common tropes of the sub-genre. No zombies. No macho Rambo-like heroes. The focus is the journey the characters are on, and the world that surrounds them. Less the Walking Dead, more Mad Max, where the world itself is an enemy.
Due to the trope changes, I'm curious if there is an audience for it. It has sold moderately well, but the self-defeating artist within can't help but wonder if it should have followed some of those tropes after all.
Thoughts?

Trigger warning: These are all adult level books with the best science I could research--sometimes too much science for some readers. If you are sensitive about violence, war, hunting, weapons, hetero-sex, human/alien romantic relationships, references to rape, depictions of murder, drugs, and so on, they may not be right for you.

Time Travel - 3 books structured in a loose trilogy - Adventure with a heavy dose of romance.
Heart of Fire Time of Ice

Space Opera/Post Apocalyptic/Alien Invasion - Adventure with the unspoken question: How can we live with friendly aliens from other planets, if we cannot live with each other?

Brian Webb (brianqwebb) | 49 comments My name is Brian Q. Webb and, by day, I'm an Elementary-level homeroom teacher at an overseas school. By night, I'm a voracious reader of science fiction, especially more "science-y" sci-fi like Crichton and Suarez. Earlier this year, I also took a stab at writing my own science-y scifi adventure and, so far, the reviews are largely positive.

Which shocks the heck out of me.

But I digress.

Hello there! After introducing myself, I thought to post the synopsis of my first published book.

Also worth mentioning, that the book is free for the taking till November the 18th! ebook

Individuum: Delusions of grandeur

A Naturalistic view on what Earth has to offer in the far future. The book portrays life as is; nothing more, nothing less. It often wanders off from the beaten path, just to seek out the truth behind reality itself.

Synopsis:

We find ourselves in Greater New York, where order was kept under tight control for many years. As of late however, radicals from unknown origins are causing great havoc. As they get more aggressive, the state tries whatever it must to eliminate the new threat. They blame a prestigious planetary company, where Alivia Hart is tasked to contradict those accusations. Unfortunately, things turn out differently from what she had expected. In her final attempt to make things right, she unexpectedly stumbles upon Frank Blackman. This is when they both learn that running from reality is not always an option…

Melva Henderson | 18 comments When Lynn Hutchinson realizes her nightmares are in fact reality, she understands the years of mental anguish from night terrors and depression are caused by something horrifying but quite real. When her ex-husband returns custody of her two young sons to her, and she begins attending group meetings for individuals abducted by extraterrestrial beings, she fears for her sons’ safety from the horrors she realizes have been her lot in life since childhood. Although she doesn’t want to remember the events of her past abductions, the memories are thrust upon her anyway, as well as the knowledge of the purpose for her abductions and the abductions of her sons; a purpose that leaves her in a state of terror. She becomes aware that there has been a multitude of other inhabitants of the earth over a period of many millennia, that have been abducted and have undergone the same painful, frightening procedures that she has endured at the hands of the strange gray beings that haunt her.

End of Innocence by Romana Drew
Just before he has to give up and go home broke, Captain Seddry finds the perfect world. It's rich in ore, has a breathable atmosphere, and it even has a reasonable climate — an ideal place for a new Langon colony. The fuzzy natives won't be a problem. They don't have any large weapons or even airplanes, making them too primitive to ever find the mining colony hidden away in an isolated valley. Or so he thinks.

After Lannes finds a colony of invading aliens, strange furless beings from space, he teams up with his sister and her boyfriend to free his world.

And then he disappears.

A.J. Britnell (anniebrit) | 18 comments Hi, I'm Andrea and I write as AJBritnell. I released my first novel back in August, exclusive to Amazon. It's called EVAC - Ignition and is a near future space adventure/thriller. The story follows an enigmatic entrepreneur and his latest venture - creating a rapid response team. The crew barely have time to adjust as they are thrust into the public eye, dealing with one disaster after another.
The action takes place in orbit and on the moon and plays heavily on how the commercial world will shape our exploration.
I started this a few years ago and now with companies like SpaceX shaping the way, I feel quite excited about the future and hope my story appears relevant and entertaining.
Sorry for the ramble, this is my first ever forum post and I'm keen to connect with like minded folk.

E.H. III | 3 comments Hi everyone. My name is E.H. Moseley III. It means a lot to have a place to come to share my work, and find so many authors doing the same.

UpLyft Protocol tells the story of a group of friends exiled from their coastal homes by sea level rise and a forced Relocation War. The novel begins more than thirty years after their exile, on the morning before the first of three Trial Lifts into space. The friends reflect on their new culture and changes to the natural environment since they left their homes by the sea. It has lots of tech (gene/nano/cyber) and involves space colonization, but never loses touch with the history of Earth.

Thanks again for the group and everything you do on Goodreads.

I am a science-fiction author and my debut novel Dreams has just been published last week. It is a dystopian, sci-fi thriller, and the description follows:

Adam Knox is an ambassador. He is sent by his government to arrest lawbreakers and condemn them to imprisonment. However, he does not know the citizens he is arresting are being used for upper-class consumption.

Knox is enticed to look the other way, for the government showers him with luxuries. But when he finally witnesses the disintegration of the citizens, he can no longer accept the life he hides within.

The world above is crumbling, and the apocalypse is near, but when Knox leaves the safety of his position and joins the resistance, he is forced to choose between his humanity and his life.

I am a self-publisher with one scifi novel (Stellar Fusion) out. Lost Souls (book 2) will publish fall 2018. I would love to hear what more readers think of Stellar Fusion. I'll be doing ARC for Lost Souls in late summer.

Stellar Fusion (Infinite Spark Book 1) by Elysia Lumen Strife
It’s been a decade since the first attack. This time, they’re taking everything… and everyone.
Earth's only hope is a small team of peace-keepers on a suicide mission to infiltrate the mother ship and relay critical defense information home.
Sergeant Atana is the tip of Earth's spear.
Sergeant Bennett must guard her with his life.

I'm a cross-genre fiction writer: scifi, military, fantasy, and romance. So there are alternate futures, guns, aliens, magic, lusty curves and muscles in my books.

I write dreamy dystopian scifi. Contradiction, I know. Nothing hard/historical about it.

Please feel free to friend me here on GR and/or message if you'd like! I would love to connect with other scifi peeps (authors and readers)!

Hope y'all are having a great day!

Jared Bernard | 25 comments Killing Juggernaut by Jared Bernard Killing Juggernaut

In the late 21st century, the no-nonsense ecologist Zara Dimitrov can never understand or forgive her father, a director for a national park, for dying when she was in high school. So she runs away from home to begin a life of solitude while at the same time trying to carry on his legacy of conservation. Early in the 22nd century, eighteen-year-old Mashechka McGuigan lives in a suppressed society whose sole purpose is to fulfill the so-called Mission for Humanity, the monumental endeavor to evacuate ecologically-devastated Earth. And she absolutely must replace her father as the mission’s leader. As the time to do so draws near, her uncertainties are exposed when she discovers the dark truth about her mother. Approaching the mid-23rd century, a bitter scientist named Patrick Nelson, whose profession has vaporized, works to help as many people as possible survive famine and disease. Then he uncovers that the one key to survival is lost.

How their lives are entwined will take the reader on an odyssey that includes the heart of Africa, the eastern seaboard of North America, the mountains of Eastern Europe, the wetlands of Australia, the agricultural expanses of Latin America, and the political turmoil of Southeast Asia. With an arsenal of scientific evidence and societal trends, Killing Juggernaut plunges the reader into the future to reveal the consequences of creating a world with virtually no basis for survival.

This novel is like a mix between Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake, Kafka's The Trial, and Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath.

"Mournful, prophetic power." -- Kirkus Reviews

"This could very well be the future of our planet... it is incredibly realistic." -- ReaderViews.com
