her magic wasn't always successful. I read this to my son 20 years ago and it wasn't a new book then. I would say it's MG, it's a novel not a picture book. Fantasy genre and printed on paper (all books were back then). We borrowed it from the library and we both enjoyed it. I've read so many books when he asked me the name of this one I just couldn't come up with it.
I thought it was by Patricia Wrede but going over her bibliography, I don't see it.

That sounds like the witch who is the secondary character in Dealing with Dragons. I think her name was something like Morwen.
