Do you mean the actual battle or its aftermaths?

I remember that Jamie told Claire about "having tried really hard to be killed" in the battle, but once he found himself "behind the lines", meaning in the middle of the English, and then he "charged cannons armed with a sword". He could not remember, however, how he ended up with BJR's body on top of himself.

He was not executed after the battle, because Lord Melton recognized Jamie as the man who spared his brother's (=Lord John Grey) life after the incident near Carryarrick. Jamie was sent home to Lallybroch in a wagon, covered with itching, fleeridden straw.

As there is still no answer to my question in msg. 140, I'll give it here myself: Fanny Hill.

Thanks! who did you forget, Lord Melton?

In FC Claire discusses with Roger various blood types and thus is reminded of Bree having had her tonsils removed. When the doctor had the results of Bree's blood type, Clair's reaction was: "I might as well have worn a scarlet "A" emboidered on my breast." What does she mean with this?

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) Well I havne't read the book yet, Still reading Voyager...

But for a wild guess I would have to say that A would stand for an adulteress perhaps?

That's an excellent guess! As a complete answer I wanted the book title "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. DG does not mention this, just dropping a/m sentence, but it has to be. And this is another reason why I love these books, did not get it at the first reading, though. Go on, please!

message 156: by Susan K. (new)

Susan K. K. | 83 comments Here is a question I do not know the answer to....hope someone can help: was it ever discovered who the three thugs were who attacked Mary Hawkins and Claire? Was one of them St. Germaine?

message 157: by Kelleigh (new)

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) Hmmm I'm terrible with names, however it was someone who was related to or in the same clan with the relative that tried to arrange her marriage! Was it her Godfather that arranged her marriage? Something along those lines I do believe.

That's probably no help at all, but that's the best I can do!

Sandringham{ Mary's godfather} was behind it; but, it was his valet and 2 of his friends that actually did it.

message 159: by Susan K. (new)

Susan K. K. | 83 comments Thanks, Mary - were they actually after Claire and/or Mary Hawkins? How could they know that the women would be late going home that night? Or was it just happenstance?

message 160: by Mary G. (new)

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments Sandringham told Claire that she was quite difficult to kill. He had arranged for his valet, Albert Danton, to take care of it and not only did he fail, but, got his goddaughter deflowered, as it were, by accident. I'm not sure how they knew the ladies would be late; they were probably watching her. They did know she would be accompanied, because they took care of Murtagh right away. The Duke was also the one behind the failed attempt on Jamie's life in Paris{ the sausage story}.

message 161: by Susan K. (new)

Susan K. K. | 83 comments Oh thanks! I forgot. That's what I love about reading and re-reading the series. I keep finding new stuff, and stuff that i had forgotten.

message 162: by Mary G. (new)

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments L know. They just never get old no matter how many times I read or listen to them. I don't know how DG does it, but, I love being hooked!

message 163: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 110 comments was one of St. Germains men for sure that attacked Claire and Mary - as well as one of the Duke of Sandringhams men.

message 164: by Mary G. (new)

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments I don't think so. It just says Sandringham arranged the attacks and his valet & friends carried out the one on Claire. I know one of Claire's theories involved St. Germain, but, I can't find anywhere that he actually was.

message 165: by Jacklyn (new)

Jacklyn Partridge | 28 comments has anyone done any research as to where they think Lallybroch is? I have a gut feeling it is near Tomich, but don' recall them crossing Loch Ness.
Just wondering if anyone was as curious as I am.

message 166: by Wendy (new)

Wendy | 259 comments Since Lollybroch is a made up place it can be where ever you want it to be. So if you want it to be near Tomich, go for it! Though somewhere I read that Diana had seen a place and placed it there in her mind, I can't remember where she said.

message 167: by Evikes (new)

Evikes | 345 comments There is a map of the placec mentioned in the first 4 book on the inside cover of the Outlandish Companion, so you could go by that...
my friend and I also tried to figure out which modern city Fraser's Ridge would be close to based on Diana's map....

message 168: by Jacklyn (new)

Jacklyn Partridge | 28 comments Thanks Eva,I totally forgot about the map. I think I'm pretty close with my guess. I am going to Scotland next year so I thought I would use this area as a home base. Good luck with Fraser Ridge, think it may be close to
Boone NC. As mentioned in a previous reply,it can be wherever, I just enjoy gathering the info she puts out there.
Best wishes

message 169: by Susan K. (new)

Susan K. K. | 83 comments Next question: what was Jamie's baby brother's name? The one that died soon after birth, and was buried with Ellen?

message 170: by Susan K. (new)

Susan K. K. | 83 comments This is one I am not sure about: in Voyager, what happened to the 10 French troops that Jamie tricked into capture when they were aground on Hispaniola (on the Artemis)?

message 171: by Mary G. (last edited Aug 02, 2010 08:27AM) (new)

Mary G. (nonometoo) | 319 comments It really doesn't say. But, one hopes they let them go before taking on the bat guano as cargo. In the Outlandish Companion it says "The bewildered garrison soldiers are overpowered and imprisoned in the hold{to be put ashore once the Artemis is safely afloat} and the bedraggled company reunited once more-save Young Ian."

The baby's name was Robert.

When Roger was going through the Reverand's things to givee away he held out one item of clothing to keep; what was it?

Reverend Wakefield's robe- a kind of silk or satin with embroidery on it. Mrs. Graham used it to do her "fortune-teller" thing.

message 174: by Mary G. (new)

Okay, Another one: What did Roger's parents call him when he was a little boy?

message 176: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra (mamacass79) | 26 comments Didn't they call him Jemmy?

message 177: by Susan K. (new)

Susan K. K. | 83 comments Cassandra wrote: "Didn't they call him Jemmy?"

Yep! Your turn!

message 178: by Jacklyn (new)

Jacklyn Partridge | 28 comments I have two questions. Did Claire ever tell Jamie that Frank had died? I can't remember seeing it anywhere. She only mentioned Bree when she came back in Voyager.

also have you ever wondered why Jamie was born on Beltane?

message 179: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra (mamacass79) | 26 comments okay, I'm having trouble coming up with a good one, so I'll go with an easy one... How did Claire figure out that Gellis was a time traveler as well?

message 180: by Jacklyn (new)

Jacklyn Partridge | 28 comments She had a small pox vaccination on her arm. Yes?

message 181: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra (mamacass79) | 26 comments yup! your turn :>

message 182: by Jacklyn (new)

Jacklyn Partridge | 28 comments I read somewhere that ghosts could appear on holidays to do good or evil,Beltane is a holiday, just trying to get into Gabaldon's head and see if there is any parallel between the two. I don't know, what do you think.
The ghost has me bothered because she has repeatedly said we would see his significance in the end. She is always throwing out clues too.

I know! It's driving me wacky, too. I want the next book to come, but I don;t want them to end, either.

message 184: by Jacklyn (new)

Jacklyn Partridge | 28 comments I don't want them to end either and if you think about it she could go on for a long time. After all Jem is alot like his Grandad.

message 185: by Heather (new)

Heather Bailey | 132 comments In Outlander, what is the name of the bishop who is attacked by the dogs, and later accuses Claire of witchcraft?

message 186: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I'm biting my tongue, hahahaha.

message 187: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Father Bain. I don't think he was a bishop though

message 188: by Heather (new)

Heather Bailey | 132 comments sorry, I am not Catholic so I get confused with all the titles...what is the difference between a Father and a Bishop??

message 189: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 199 comments Wendy F wrote: "I'm biting my tongue, hahahaha."

Why?

message 190: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Heather -+ If my Catholic upbringing serves a Father is a Priest and a Bishop is also a Priest only he's higher up on the totem pole. This help?

message 191: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I was quick on the answers, so I'm sitting out on the Trivia, lol. I can ask but not answer.

Oh, so now you're banned and can't play to give everyone a chance. Sounds fair, otherwise you'd get Jamie too soon and then what would we do?

message 193: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments LOL, Yes, it is fair. Though whoever wins Jamie has to give me around with him since I have to bow out.

message 194: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Wendy --
It may be a long time before you get to him! There's a long waiting list.

message 195: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 199 comments Ooh, what would it take to get me to the top of the list? Begging? Money? Ice cream and chocolates? Sexual favors? Beating the s**t out of someone?
Am I getting close? Cause I'm open to anything, girls,(How do you spell OBSESSED, again?)

message 196: by Fawn (new)

Fawn | 404 comments Wendy F wrote: "I'm biting my tongue, hahahaha."

LOL Wendy I shouldn't have commented on your trivia powerous, I didn't think you would be told to keep your fingers shut! Type on, my friend I am glad I can ask any thing Outlander and you can asnwer it! : )

message 197: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments So... just out of curiosity how many times have any of you in this group read the Outlander series? Be honest now.

message 198: by Fawn (new)

Fawn | 404 comments I am pretty much a newbie here. I bought Outlander on October 16, 2010. Since then I have read every book except Echo (I am reading that right now)I also Ordered The Outlandish Companion. I can't wait till that gets here! After I finish Echo I have to decide if I want to then start over on audio or start the Lord John series.

LOL I just realized I Should have just said 4 months. LOL See how fast Outlander hits a person I can't seem to stop talking about it!

message 199: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments LOL! I'll break down eventually. I'm actually not all that great at regular trivia, but this is Outlander, it happens to be an area of expertise for me, haha.

Let's see, I started reading this series when Drums of Autumn was first released, so I was 17. I reread the whole series when a new book comes out, plus a few additional times for sh*ts and giggles, so it puts me somewhere around here... (im under guessing I think)

Outlander - 15 times
Dragonfly in Amber - 10 times
Voyager - 10 times
Drums of Autumn - 10 times
Fiery Cross - 4 times
Breath of Snow and Ashes - 2 times
Echo in the Bone - just once, :)

message 200: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments OK I'll fess up. I started reading the series in October of '09 and as of now have read Outlander 3 times (it's still my favorite) and Breath of Snow and Ashes, twice. I just downloaded DIA, Voyager and DOA on my kindle (so I have it wherever I go). But Wendy you have me beat big time!
