Charlotte | 275 comments Update:

Currently I'm halfway through Batyr Nursen, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and over halfway done The Book Thief.
I'm hoping to finish The Book Thief and potentially The Mysterious Affair at Styles tomorrow or the day after.
I'm going to switch out The Mysterious Affair at Styles with The Phantom of the Opera and if I have time then maybe I'll still read it. So currently, I'm putting The Mysterious Affair at Styles under a book published in the 1910s.
Let me know if I should change anything :D

Peter Pan was written and takes place in the 1900's when the play was produced. It was published as a book in the 1910's, so it counts for both of those spots. I see you are picking up Wizard of Oz, Susan, so I will switch it.

Don't worry, just being willing to take on a 1000-page stream-of-conscious book made up of basically a single sentence is a brave endeavor in my opinion!! I would definitely have to take breaks and read other books alongside that one.

Jennifer (blacjak) | 350 comments So, what book on your planning list does everyone most look forward to reading?

For me, it's going to be 1700: Scenes from London Life.

Honestly, April Fools - I loved these cheesy YA horror books when I was a teenager and still do to this day lol

Hmm, I love Agatha Christie! So anything by her... or Phantom of the Opera if I get around to it. I've seen the musical, but haven't read the book, so that's really exciting!

I was already 300 pages into Ducks, we only get to count 700 pages

You're still brave for tackling that book. :)

That was published in the 2000s and is more than 100 pages, so I am putting it there (which will compete that prompt and give us triple points) and moving Good Dirt to "set in two time periods" to give us an extra prompt.

Charlotte | 275 comments Update:

I finished The Book Thief. I put it on the spreadsheet.
I will finish The Mysterious Affair at Styles tomorrow and I will finish Batyr Nursen: fengslet, torturert, kastet ut av tre land tomorrow or the day after (Tuesday).
I will potentially also start another book, maybe Murder on the Orient Express if I get to it tomorrow. I'll definitely start a new book by Tuesday.

message 113: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 1515 comments I just re-read Sabrina the Teenage Witch Since I last read it when I was a teenager, I put it down for the "Book read when younger" prompt :)

Denise | 436 comments I am reading all the books I committed to and expect to finish/post them on this timetable:

Mostly harmless: later tonight (Sunday)

Proust: Monday

If I finish Ducks sooner I can prob pick up another book if needed

D.L. | 1515 comments I thought I'd make a little list of open spots that still need to be spoken for. Please let me know if I'm missing anything or added a prompt that shouldn't be there. I don't know if this helps or not but I tried lol

Prompts Left to be Claimed: 5

Singles
Historical fiction: (Need 1)
Time Travel: (Need 1)

Doubles
Published or set in 1900s: (Need 1)
Unit of time in title: (Need 1)

Triples
Published or set in 1950s: (Need 1)

This is really helpful! Thanks :D

message 119: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 275 comments If I finish all my other books I can definitely fill in the historical fiction prompt, and I can see if I have any other books that would work for any other prompts, but I doubt it...

message 120: by Whitney (new)

Whitney Biggs | 480 comments I finished Wayward Son and Parable of the Sower. Added both to the spreadsheet.

I plan to start Kindred later today, and I'm still continuing to read The Villa and Good Dirt.

Susan | 573 comments The Light Between Oceans is a historical fiction novel, but I had it marked as published in the 2010s. We can use it for either prompt.

message 123: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 275 comments I don't know which one is a harder prompt...
I can maybe fill in the historical fiction novel one, but I'm not sure if I'll get to it...
If we choose which one we don't finish a singles is better than a doubles... so maybe just go with published in 2010s...

I originally put Mostly Harmless under time travel, and it IS primarily about time travel. Someone moved it to future decade but that isn't really true and that might be an easier prompt than time travel. I did complete it and listed it on the spreadsheet as complete

Ducks, Newburyport which I will finish Fri or Sat takes place in 2017 or so there is at least one 2010

Hmm, maybe some rearranging could work? I don't know. I don't dare try since spreadsheets and I don't mix lol

Susan | 573 comments Just looking at the spreadsheet and Whitney completed a book published in the year or decade you were born. Parable of the Sower is on the completed tab but not the tracking tab. It's marked as few possible options though.

Theresa | 840 comments I finished the last 108 pages of "The Darling Dahlias and The Cucumber Tree," earlier today. I'll let the team leader(s) decide where it should go as far as prompts and such. Still a bit sore from surgery. Thank you for the help.

I put in under the published or set in the 90s prompt for now. But, it can also be used for the published in the year or decade you were born prompt, too, if it needs to be moved.

I added this one for published/set in the. 1930s. It's not showing the prompt points for this or The Book Thief,

I'll leave it open for now, if anyone else gets to filling it, that's perfectly fine :D

message 136: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 275 comments I finished The Mysterious Affair at Styles last night, and I'll be finishing Batyr Nursen: fengslet, torturert, kastet ut av tre land later today. I'll probably be starting another book (Murder on the Orient Express) later today if I have time as well.

Jennifer (blacjak) | 350 comments Denise wrote: "D.L. wrote: "I thought I'd make a little list of open spots that still need to be spoken for. Please let me know if I'm missing anything or added a prompt that shouldn't be there. I don't know if t..."

So the time travel prompt is a single prompt, and the set in the future is part of a double prompt (where we get more points). Mostly Harmless is about time travel, but my logic for it also being set in the future is that in the original Hitchhiker's Guide, the earth is destroyed. Since all the other books take place after this and since the earth (as of yet) has not been destroyed, all the books are set in the future. There is also the sense that the Vogons (view spoiler).

If that logic doesn't make sense, I would probably move Mostly Harmless to the 1990s and rearrange one of those books to fill a double prompt. It's up to you. :)

Also, I added Mostly Harmless to the Tracking Tab for you--if you could double-check that I got the page number correct for the version you read, I would appreciate it.

Jennifer (blacjak) | 350 comments Here is another update of the prompts that are left:

Triple:
None

Double:
Unit of Time in the Title (here are some examples:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
***Just note that list has more than books with units of time as it says at the top. Units of time include: second, minute, hour, day, night (as per the moderators), week, month, year, decade, fortnight, century, millennia, period, epoch, eon, era, age, jiffy (physics), shake, moment, quarantine, semester, olympiad, jubilee, and a bunch of other odd ones that I don't think would be found in book titles.)

Singles:
Historical Fiction (this is only a single and should be the easiest to fill, so please don't claim it until you have finished all the books you already committed to reading)

Almost done with The Light Between Oceans

message 141: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 275 comments Thanks for the update Jennifer!!

As of now, I should be finishing all of my books and maybe even getting to read one extra if I have time :D

Great job so far everyone!!

message 143: by Denise (new)

Denise | 436 comments @Jennifer think due the the time travel you can argue that Mostly Harmless takes place in the present and future. So could probably keep it under the future

I am also in track to finish in scheduke, I will post Proust soon. I am ahead of time on Ducks

Whitney Biggs | 480 comments Started Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic tonight. Should have it finished tomorrow.

I made myself a little schedule to keep on track with my books.

Wednesday: Finish Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic.

Thursday: Finish Kindred. Start The Razor’s Edge and Old Yeller.

Friday: Finish Old Yeller.

Saturday: Finish The Villa.

Sunday: Finish Good Dirt and The Razor’s Edge.

message 145: by Denise (new)

Denise | 436 comments I finished How Proust Can Change Your Life and put it as "historical nonfiction" as planned in this thread. But there is a problem with the cell and I can only type "How Proust" and if I type the rest it takes up three cells instead of staying in the assigned cell. I'm not good at spreadsheets and don't want to mess it up trying to fix it

message 146: by Whitney (last edited Jul 23, 2025 06:39AM) (new)

Whitney Biggs | 480 comments When I made my reading schedule, I didn't realize the Kindle version of the Mary Anne book was a lot shorter than the physical book. It still counts. Yay! Also means that I have a little extra reading room. I think I can pick up one of the remaining prompts.

I'll read Old Yeller to finish out the '50s. The Kindle version is exactly 100 pages.
