I've never read her before but I went to the library this morning and took out her Nerferti. Looking forward to reading this.

I am currently reading To Defy a King by Elizabeth Chadwick. This is about the time of King John and the Magna Carta and follows the life of Mahelt (or Maud) Marshal Bigod, daughter of William Marshal (1st Earl of Pembroke) and wife of Hugh Bigod (3rd Earl of Norfolk). It is a good book so far. I had never really read about this time before, so I'm discovering a lot I did not know before.I have also recently borrowed from the library Eliazabeth and Mary: Cousins Rivals Queens by Jane Dunn, a nonfiction biography of the two queens, and The Last Queen by C.W. Gortner about Juana of Castile. I am very excited about reading these two books over the next weeks.
Christie - I am currently reading C.W> 's book The Last Queen and it is fantastic! Did you read The Confessions of Catherine de Medici with us? This one is just as good.
I also have Chadwick's To Defy a King on my nook. Looking forward to that one.

I read The Confessions of Catherine de Medici about a month ago before joining the group (in fact it led me to this group since it was listed as one of the groups that had shelved the book). I very much enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading The Last Queen.
I saw Margaret George's newest book about Elizabeth on the shelf at one of my local book stores and I have to say it was very difficult to walk away from. The dust jacket was just so pretty! And it felt amazing.

This landed last week on my hold shelf at the library and I let it go on to others waiting in line. I do want to read it one day, but I am sooooooo tired of the Tudors at the moment I just couldn't handle it now. Besides, I'm nine books behind in the GR 2011 reading challenge and last thing I need is a huge chunkster slowing me down :p
Sharon wrote: "What is the GR 2011 Reading Challenge, Misfit?"Hi Sharon, Goodreads has given members the option of a reading challenge as to number of books you plan to read in the year. Go to your main Goodreads page and look on the right hand side (scroll down a bit). You should see it. Join the challenge and choose the number of books you want to read. As you mark books off as read throughout the year the software keeps count for you. Right now it's telling me I'm nine books behind :)
Mine is telling me I'm three books behind so far. Last week it was at five, so I'm slowly clawing my way back!!Sharon, I really want to read MG's new book, but right now I'm currently reading several bricks (bricks to me are books over 500 pages, they usually end being my favorites LOL). I'm rereading the series (or what's out of it anyway) A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin in hopes that his July 12 release date of his next book is actually real this time. And I'm starting your Eleanor trilogy too :) I'm really excited to read it. So, maybe in July I'll be able to read it?! I hope!
I am going to read A Game of Thrones, Aly; a good friend is a huge, huge fan and told me I had to read it. I had a bit of trouble keeping all the characters straight on tonight's HBO debut of the series. I love bricks, too; if I really am enjoying a book, it is wonderful to be able to get lost in it. Margaret's book is worth waiting for; I told her it could be called The Lioness in Winter. Have you read Legacy by Susan Kay? That is a brilliant book about Elizabeth Tudor and unlike Margaret's, it covers all of her life.
Wow, they did such an awesome job with A Game of Thrones. I could understand about not keeping the characters straight, it's kinda hard to in the books at first too. I haven't read Legacy. I've actually read very few books on Elizabeth. Henry VIII was always more fascinating to me. But lately, I've felt that I should know a bit more about Elizabeth. It sounds like, as far as fiction goes, Legacy is a great place to start with her.
I tried Game of Thrones, but was very confused about the characters (too many of them) and decided to try it again another day when my mind wasn't so distracted. I recommend Legacy as well. Excellent.
I want to read it soon, took, Sharon. Most of the fantasy aficionados that I know put George R R Martin and this series in their top 5 for epic series. Can't wait to try it.
I got Young Henry: The Rise of Henry VIII and The Ebbs And Flows Of Fortune in the mail today. The first is about the early life of Henry VIII; the second is about Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk.
Yeah, George RR Martin's series is in my top five fav of all time. Amazing series. I've been on a total medieval fantasy kick lately too LOL. Still working my way through The Borgia Bride. It's not holding my attention as much I had hoped. I think it's because of the show the Borgias. I want to read about Lucrezia, not Sancha of Aragon!! My other problem is that I am rereading GRRM's series at the same time and two of the main characters in the Borgia Bride have the same name (or extremely similar) to two of the main characters in his series.
Aly - the Borgia Bride did not hold my attention as much as I had hoped eithr. Not sure why, but I haven't finished it and am not hankering to get back to it yet.
Aawww, I really enjoyed Borgia Bride. It was one of the first books I read after a long time away from reading. I thought it was great. A little shocking at times but totally had my attention. I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time getting thru it but sometimes, no matter what, books can just let you down. :(
I know, Shirley. So did Jennifer and Colleen, but for some reason, I just haven't been able to give it the attention that it needs. I think I got caught up in a little conundrum that I found, and that kind of set me off for a while.
For the most part, if Jennifer recommends a book to me, I will usually like it also. I'm half way through Queen Hereafter and really enjoying it.
Same here. She has good taste, you brought her up right, lol. That's why I am surprised about Borgia Bride.
Glad you are liking this one.

I like how your mind works. I suppose I should take some credit for her. (She'll have something to same when she finds out we're talking about her. lol)
Hmmm... I suppose you can take a little credit...
That's too bad you and Aly aren't liking TBB, Lyn. I really liked it. Not very often that we disagree on books like that. Ah well... bound to happen every once in a while :P

Just bought When Christ and His Saints Slept in Kindle format - my first "royalty" book for a while (which is why I haven't been around). I must say something which is not true of all Kindle books - it seems to be properly formatted. Many are obviously scanned in, which leads to problems.

I hate the scanned in books. The formatting is so confusing, and I hate having the large blank sections where the formatting doesn't fit. Hope you like When Christ and His Saints Slept. We are doing a buddy read of the whole series in the buddy read folder.

I recently read She-Wolves, by Helen Castor - about the female rulers of England before Elizabeth I. It was very good; there was information on people I hadn't even thought about as female rulers! And, by the way, eBay and Amazon both thank you for this thread - I may be singlehandedly keeping them in business!
Lol Tomi and Susanna. I like the way you think. If Amazon, B&N, eBay or any of my suppliers would give me a cut I would be sitting in tall cotton for sure.
