No worries! Feel free to swap out my books as needed. My reading has seriously gone down, so I won't be offended if you need to move my books.

I've struggled with All the Light We Cannot See. 2025 in the US is probably not the right time to read it, but I've finally reached a point where I'm anxious to see what happens next instead of dreading it, and am hoping to have it finished tonight, which should finish off the Time Traveler's Depot

Woot! I’ve only read a few of his but I loved them and have been meaning to get back to reading his books.

It was your review of The Wolf’s Hour that helped me decide to read it! I needed a werewolf book for the impossible challenge and I am not feeling any of the usual offerings on the werewolf lists.

Oh, the waxing and waning of our reading moods. I hope you are able to find some enjoyment in the book as you finish it. Maybe the Penny Reid will be a nice palate cleanser after that one 😃

June is not too far away, really. I know it will take me until June to finish my two books. Unless I manage to pull them off this weekend hehe. I’m off work until Tuesday, so anything is possible if I put my mind to it.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1003 comments I hear you Laila Jane - I'm reading The Light Pirate right now, and while I'm savoring every drop of writing, it too is a tough read in US 2025.

I'm planning on reading Boy's Life for a June book quest task - 3 cheers for McCammon! :D

It's definitely not your typical paranormal romance shifter book!

I'll probably end up re-reading that one for that task, because I am soooooo over those kind of books,

🎭 Genre Attractions: The Wanderlust Waystation
Dive into the genres listed below and read 5 books that fit the theme. Genres may be repeated.
Genres: Travel Memoir, Expedition Fiction, Survival Stories, Lost City Adventures, Archaeological Thriller, Sea Voyages, Nomadic Tales, Exploration Nonfiction, Road Trip Fiction, Mountain Climbing Memoirs

message 266: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3766 comments Oof! I have a mountain climbing memoir I can squeeze in, but it's a shortie (200-odd pages), otherwise I have a few longer exploration/sea voyage type books (why couldn't we have gotten this one when I was reading In the Heart of the Sea The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick earlier this month!?) but I'm not sure I can get to them before mid-end June!

Too many print books to read for Book Quest! And I don't have any of them on audio. *sigh*

message 267: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1003 comments I'm in the same boat with book quest - lol. I wonder whether metaphorical mountains count? I am planning on reading The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery soon, but that's short too.

Man, I just finished a road trip book!

This category might take me a few weeks. Need to double check my books and see.

Sammy, I feel your pain on the lack of audio for some books. I can’t get the McCammon books on audio so I’m beholden to my work schedule for getting those done. Sadly, my long weekend did not work out for buckling down to read those books. I started them both, though.

Wonder if a thriller that takes place on a yacht in the sea counts as a “sea voyage”…

message 270: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3766 comments When you say just finished, was it after we were checked in for this one? Because we can use books finished from when we checked in.

I think I'll probably go with the short one, unless I can figure out where the Shackleton book I have went to (this may be Scotland. Some of my books are already boxed up and gone ahead of us 😆).

message 271: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3766 comments actually going for a different book with a similar page count, as I don't want to rush the other one. also this one is a large hardback, and if I don't have to lug it with me to scotland, it's a bonus 😆

(I've gotten rid of 191 books so far this year that I don't have to box up and move! I'm pround of me. Unfortunately, with still almost 3000 left, it's a drop in the ocean, but hey-ho... 😂)

Sadly, no. It was a few days ago, so not technically "just" finished. I think I used it for one of our last tasks anyway, now that I think about it.

I think I was mostly annoyed that I don't have anything else for that task right this second so it's like, "Dang! I could have used that book but now I've got to search" :P

That's still a lot of books, lol.

Are you trying to sell (any/all/some of) them or give them to specific people? If not, maybe you can take them to a charity shop or something like that, just to get them off your hands.

Around here, if I really want to get rid of things and I'm too lazy to take them to the half price book store, I just plop it all at the curb. Someone will pick it up within an hour, lol.

message 274: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 778 comments I have one but as I have 4 books from different countries going right now, it may be a bit - Taiwan Travelogue

message 275: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3766 comments I'm a bit of a book hoarder, but have recently learned to let go of the books I don't think I'll re-read. I generally take those to our local Little Free Library (I'd take them to the local charity shop, but they don't accept anything that isn't in pristine "looks like it's never been read" condition. I know this as I used to volunteer there. it was my biggest annoyance with the place!).

So right now the books left are those I feel I might re-read, those I haven't read yet, and those belonging to hubby (not my place to get rid of). Also one or two by an author who I have all of the books of, so want to keep the collection whole, even if I hated the book (looking at you Billy Summers 😆).

Still almost 3000 🤣

Challenges permitting, I'm currently trying to focus on those books I haven't read yet I feel I may not want to keep afterwards. Every book I don't need to pack is a bonus, as far as I'm concerned!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3766 comments Also, there is no putting things by the side of the road here unless you want to get done for fly-tipping! A hefty fine and potential jail-time.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3766 comments You guys seen the new bonus challenge starting on the 9th?

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As it always goes with these things, the book I'm currently reading is perfect, and none of the others I have planned this month seem to fit at all. Story of my life. 😂

I can throw a short one at this and try to squeeze it in, for something longer it would have to be a re-read, and as hubby is working from home again from tomorrow, reading time will evaporate again, so couldn't guarantee a swift finish for the team bonus if we wanted to go for that.

Requested in Q and a but thought I’d ask you all directly…
Looking for a “picaresque” book written by a woman (or queer authors). Anyone know of any? I’m hoping for something more modern/contemporary than classic. Something easy to get into. Found a Ruth Ware book that is tagged picaresque that I might read, but thought I’d see if anyone has a recommendation.

Exception to the modern caveat: Will accept any fun historical romances!
