Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2594 comments "Blink reveals that great decision makers aren't those who process the most information or spend the most time deliberating, but those who have perfected the art of "thin-slicing" - filtering the very few factors that matter from an overwhelming number of variables." (from the description of the book.)

The audio was read by the author and, in this case, was well done which is not always true of author read audiobooks. The information is valuable, especially for those in leadership roles which is probably how this came to be on my reading list. It's been there on my list for a very long time! Nevertheless, the workings of the mind are always fascinating. He dwells into a couple of case-studies and refers back to them occasionally throughout the book, reminding the listener of some of the first times it was mentioned, making it sink in without harping on the issues.

A worthwhile read.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I read parts of this book for a class I was prepping, and I liked the variety of examples he gave. I enjoy his books because he combines some accepted research findings with original thoughts and colorful anecdotes. His book about strangers had some important ideas, but it could have been so much better.

I want to read his newest book Revenge of the Tipping Point: Overstories, Superspreaders, and the Rise of Social Engineering. I can’t believe our science month is half over.

Saorsa Lykins | 98 comments I’ve read chunks of Outliers: The Story of Success, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, and Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking while putting together curricula for my classes. I really appreciate your review for showing me the value in reading a Gladwell book cover-to-cover. I always saw them as a series of vignettes. Your review shows there is a through-line connecting them, which makes me feel a lot less „I‘ve pretty much read it already“ and more „I might just be missing a lot of his point.“ Thanks!
