PattyMacDotComma | 590 comments Irish author Jess Kidd's new novel, Murder at Gulls Nest, is the first of what I bet will be a popular new cosy mystery series. Former nun Nora Breen is exasperatingly 'helpful' to a local detective. 😊

PattyMacDotComma | 590 comments The Third Man is the classic Graham Greene post WW2 mystery set in occupied Vienna. It has been produced in many formats, text, script, film, and this fully dramatised version I refer to as a radio play. So good!

Matthew (matthew_loves_mysteries) | 1 comments Hello mystery lovers! I recently added a review for Kate Hardy's "The Body at the Roman Baths." This is the 5th and most recent book in the Georgina Drake series and it's giving palpable amateur sleuth energy with a high stakes mystery connected to all the characters.

Kate Hardy has a really clever premise for layering in multiple mysteries and creating an incredibly likable cast of characters, especially with Georgina who is a super smart sleuther finding her way after love and loss.

PattyMacDotComma | 590 comments Garry Disher is an author you can rely on to tell a good Aussie story without any g'days or howyagoinmates. His characters are just honest cops (or crooks!) and their people and places. I like Alan Auhl, a rebooted detective, with his power back on after being taken out of retirement to investigate cold cases Under the Cold Bright Lights.

MythoScroll | 1 comments **Book Review: *The Historian* by Elizabeth Kostova**

As a 25-year-old reader fascinated by history and mystery, *The Historian* is the kind of novel that lingers in your thoughts long after you turn the last page. Blending historical research, gothic atmosphere, and an eerie sense of discovery, Kostova takes readers on a journey through centuries, following the legend of Dracula—not as a fictional vampire, but as a historical figure with dark secrets.

The novel unfolds through letters, personal accounts, and layered storytelling, making it feel like you’re piecing together a real-life puzzle. What sets it apart from typical thrillers is its deeply immersive historical detail and the human emotions woven into the mystery. The protagonist isn’t just chasing answers—she’s unraveling her own family’s past, making every revelation feel personal.

At its heart, *The Historian* isn’t just about uncovering Dracula’s secrets; it’s about the weight of history, the pursuit of truth, and the sacrifices people make for knowledge. It’s slow-burning, rich in atmosphere, and perfect for anyone who loves intellectual mysteries with a deep emotional core.

If you enjoy historical mysteries that make you feel like a scholar on the edge of discovery, this book is worth every page.

Donne | 38 comments I've come across a couple of really good reads lately, like this one that takes place at an animal sanctuary. The best scene? Ziplining over wild animals.

Ambush (Sanctuary #1) by Colleen Coble - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Then there is this really good Aussie crime thriller with a bad@$$ FMC.

Alice | 109 comments I finished the newest in Mel Starr's series The Way of the Wicked The Way of the Wicked (The Chronicles of Hugh de Singleton, Surgeon #17) by Melvin R. Starr . Excellent series. I have read all of them. Mr. Starr does a great job of growing his characters over time. Although there is 17 books in the series it is still well written and interesting. Highly recommend this series but start with book 1.
