Book: The Broken One
Author: Ruth Cardello
Pages: 246
Task: Read a book with a title that begins with a letter found in THE OREGON TRAIL
How Book Qualifies: The Broken One
Date Read: 03/11/25
The last few weeks I've been thinking about the tasks I had planned for Week 10. It was just the same old tasks that you had done for almost the whole challenge.
It seems anticlimactic not to do something special to accomplish a great journey. So, I have adjusted the tasks.
I didn't want to surprise you with new tasks on Monday morning, so I have posted them in the Q &A thread. Here's a link to the post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Now you'll have time to think about what you'd like to do.

Team, what do you think? Any preference for which option to take? I should be able to find a book for any of the tasks, so I'll be happy to go with what everyone else prefers. :)

This is Week 10 of your journey to Oregon. (You won't get a Calamity Card this week.)
I'm sorry to say this, but the last 70 miles of your journey is actually the most difficult. There is no easy way into the Willamette Valley. (Yet. The last part of the Oregon Trail won't be completed for another year or so.)
****************************************************
You have two different ways to complete your journey. The options are:
1) - You can take the expensive and dangerous ferry on the Columbia River into the Valley. You will have dismantle your wagon so it will fit on the ferry. There is a 10-day wait for the ferry.
To do so, all members of the team will need to read a book that is tagged "Fairy", "Faery", or "Fairytale(s)".
- OR -
2) - You can take the almost completed Barlow Road over the heavily forested and rocky volcanic Mount Hood. This Pass is not suitable for wagons, so you will have to leave it behind.
To do so, each member of your team will need to read for one of The Barlow Road tasks. All four tasks must be read for.
The Barlow Road was built in 1846 by Sam Barlow and Philip Foster, and served as the last overland segment of the Oregon Trail.

Team 4 / Lopsided Library Wagon
TEAM THREAD: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
TASKS: We traveled over Barlow Road
1. Beginning of Barlow Road - Erin at the wheel
2. Denise heads south toward Tygh Valley.
3. Taking over, Lynette now brings us west.
4. Surviving (barely on this unfinished road), Jill brings us home to Oregon City.

It was lengthy, laborous, and somewhat perilous, but we made it gals!
Had fun with you all, snakes aside :)
We ended the game with Two Spare Clean Waters.

(Isn't the Willamette Valley beautiful?)
Congratulations on a successful journey. It was tough, but you made it. Well done!

I did. Was feeling especially creative LOL
This was great fun! We made a pretty good team, didn't we? All challenges successfully overcome. :)
