Welcome to everyone that has joined us this past month. It's always nice to have new members join in reading with us.

Welcome Micah. I am glad you have chosen to read with us. Feel free to join any discussion that looks interesting.

Welcome to the group.
Welcome to the group.

I was at the airport recently and stumbled across a signed copy of a Christian suspense novel that an author had left behind for a stranger to find. It felt too special not to share!
That book was my first time diving into the genre in a while, and it completely hooked me. I'm hoping to connect with other readers who appreciate powerful stories of faith, mystery, and resilience. Besides reading, I love hiking, and I find the themes in these books often resonate with my own journeys.
I'm hoping to connect with fellow readers who enjoy discussing those deeper themes of resilience and mystery
So, for my first question to the group...
What book have you read that best captured the feeling of a difficult but worthwhile journey?

I'm not super Internet savvy, and I'm the quiet one, nonetheless, I want to connect with similar minded people.
Marulina is my name, I primarily read in English due to being in an English speaking country, but Spanish is my native country's language.
I'm interested in all kinds of Classics, but I gravitate towards ancient literature, Renaissance, and everything in between, and even after, just not very modern.
I'm currently reading Silas Marner.
Glad to be here, and thank you for accepting me!
Welcome to the group all who have joined us new in September! So glad you are here and happy reading.

Left to my own devices, I have my own schedule of 1 long read and 2 or 3 short reads per month, mixing classics with contemporary novels. I also like to read poetry and short story collections.
I try to review everything I read except short stories and individual poems.
I'm also in a reading group outside of Goodreads. We are currently working our way through the Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories.
I'm just getting to the end of Daniel Deronda, which will free up some time but I've enjoyed it so much I have added a few more books by or about George Eliot to my list.

So glad to have you as member of the the group, and the goal here is to read good books. Thank you for your reading update. I'm going to check out the Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories.

Very nice to have you here, John. Just thought I would mention that the threads stay open, so you can comment on books in the discussion threads even if you missed the group read. Frequently you will get responses even after the group has moved on.

Welcome

Thanks for that tip, Sara!

Hi John, welcome.
I similarly like mixing a couple of short stories with a longer read. Some of us are also in a really fun Short Story Club group.

I finished 1984 earlier this year and was very moved by it. A couple of us are doing a buddy read in January for Notes from Underground if you'd like to join. According to one of our members, that book was written as a way for Dostoevsky to express his views on nihilism, in the context of discussions with Ivan Turgenev and Nikolai Chernyshevsky.

Welcome to the group, Karma. We are glad to have you join us.
Welcome to the group, Karma. We are glad to have you join us.

I read some classics in high school (Of Mice and Men, Twelve Angry Men and The Crucible come to mind), but I was really blown away when I read Jane Eyre for an English literature elective subject as part of my degree in French and linguistics. I also studied French literature as part of my studies and lived in France for a while. Now I find I am catching up on English-language classics and English translations of classics written in additional languages.
A couple of recent reads of mine are: The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë.
I am currently juggling quite a few books as I am completing a reading challenge this month called ‘Victober,’ where we read Victorian literature in the month of October based off several different prompts. It will be challenging, but I’m looking forward to it.
Looking forward to connecting with everyone and feel free to add me :)
Welcome to our new members. Threads stay open, so feel free to read and comment on older threads if you like.

Hello all! My name is Charisma and I am a book lover and aspiring author. I love classics and for about a year and a half I have been trying to slowly work my way through all of them. I love book suggestions and to hear others thoughts on classics. Thanks!

My name is Justin and I just joined goodreads. I believe this is a good group for me as I read a lot of older stuff. I'm an English instructor at a small college in upstate NY. Been trying to set up my account and post the books I've read. Perhaps I'll meet some friends with similar interests.
This is the perfect group for an English instructor, Justin. Hope you get set up soon and find some threads here that you want to follow and comment on. Welcome.
