Petra Jayne Green (midknightrose) | 14 comments My worst book series that I read for 2024 was House of night. It did not need to be twelve books long. Could have easily been done in six or seven books. It is possibly also the worst vampire series I've ever read.

Squire (srboone) | 8 comments Well, I'd like to say A Court of Thorns and Roses was the worst book I read this year--but I can't. That honor goes to The White Plague Chronicles by Gene O'Neill--a virus that targets people of the Caucasian race is sought by terrorist organizations around the world for weaponization. Slated for publication by Silver Shamrock before it folded, the author couldn't find another home for it, so he self-published it in 2024. As bad as it sounds.

♡♥︎Maymoona♥︎♡୨ৎ | 26 comments The worst book I read this year was definitely Little Stranger by Leigh Rivers it was just all in all HORRID.
The characters were unbearably annoying and just flat-out weird, there was no plot, none whatsoever. Don't get me wrong I usually like dark romance but god no- just NO

smutmutt | 15 comments I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but ACOTAR and Manacled were HUGE let downs. Absolutely boring.

Cassandra 🍁☕️📚 (blondie2611) | 151 comments Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne. Horrible short story.

Artemis~Ebonie (Inactive) | 65 comments I honestly think it was either Cruel Prince or Shatter Me. I know people love both those series but they were extremely boring to me and I ended up skipping half the words

Glenda (glenda-r) | 29 comments I realize that I am an outlier on this…but I could not get into “James” by Perceval Everett. I tried twice and just gave up. Maybe I’ll revisit, but I doubt it.

sarah | 288 comments The red tent. Absolutely hated it. I did not believe the story nor did I like the style of the writer. Apparently she did extensive research on the characters and story but to me it was not true. These are my own thoughts and opinions read for yourself as others have different views this just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Susanne | 102 comments For me it was Sanctuary of the Shadow by Aurora Ascher. Simply awful! I wanted to dnf around 20% but it was an ARC and I try not to dnf ARC's, I want to give the story a chance. Wish I had dnf'd it!

R.A | 1 comments Definitely a court of thorns and roses. Bought in on impulse since it was on sale. Now I want to sell it. Jeez

Nora (Grayson's version) (noraseed) | 179 comments love in the time of serial killers

message 14: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Baynard | 6 comments Kendra Elliot The Next Grave Elliot is usually a favorite author. I absolutely hated this one, she spent a lot of gratuitous time on torture and cruelty. Why? The story wasn't very strong either. It seems like everyone in a five mile radius has been kidnapped or a family member murdered. It's too much. Now mind you this is the most recent book that I disliked - there have been others that I have disliked more. Just can't remember...

message 15: by Micronova (new)

Micronova | 6 comments Divine Rivals.
I should have DNF’d it.

message 16: by Kai's (new)

Kai's Darling | 660 comments Definitely The Winner's Crime. DNF'd at 13%

message 17: by Julie (new)

Julie | 5 comments The worst book I read was Rouge by Mona Awad. I have had a few of her books on my TBR but will never read another by her. The only reason I finished Rouge was because I won it from Goodreads and felt I needed to finish to write a review. Don't remember how long it took me to complete, but it is time I will never get back!!!!

message 18: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Hollender | 6 comments Should Have Known Better by A.J. McDine. If you read a lot of thriller/mysteries just don't do it. Predictable and there the author makes some questionable choices that make me shake my head. Gave it 2 stars. You have to work hard to get such a low rating from me.

message 19: by Erica (new)

Erica Robbin (ericarobbin) | 82 comments I haven't heard of any of these in everyone's comment. How funny. I must be behind in the book world.

My worst for me wasn't terrible, but lowest was 3 stars, was Miss Morgan's Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles, was just not as exciting as it could have been. Too much forced backstory flipping back to dual timeline and varying narratives where voice distinction between all them wasn't clear or exciting.

message 20: by LiteraryCryptid (last edited Jan 01, 2025 08:08AM) (new)

LiteraryCryptid | 60 comments Powerless - but I give it the benefit of the doubt because I'm not the target audience. If it was teen me reading is I would have probably loved it - but as an adult. . . Nope.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 41 comments The Caraval & Ouabh double-trilogy

message 22: by evlove (new)

evlove | 89 comments FUNNY STORY—🫢 i found the mc insufferable and i didnt find the story funny…. I felt like the third wheel of a super annoying couple

message 23: by Beth (new)

Beth Koop | 20 comments Probably Intermezzo, by Sally Rooney. It was so hyped up so I was really looking forward to it and then it just fell flat for me. The story wasn’t terrible, but I couldn’t get into the stream of consciousness writing style.

message 24: by Nat (new)

Nat | 141 comments Hands down the first Crescent City series book by Sarah J. Maas. Absolutely not my cup of tea, felt like embarrassing teen drama but ‘spicy ish’ for adults.

message 25: by LilMisGrayBrisk (new)

LilMisGrayBrisk | 550 comments I rated two books a 1 star last year:

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
