I started doing it as a way to force myself to slow down and understand what I'm reading. So, I try to make notes as I'm reading, etc., so that I can have something to say and perhaps remember more than a vague idea of what the book was about. I've been really trying to do this with classic literature too, because I struggle with it so much!

I wish GR cared about the lists more! They could definitely be so much more awesome!

AH! This is definitely on my TBR!"
I attempted to read this in January. I was not successful. It was written well, but I just thought it was weird and couldn't connect to the characters. I was doing a BR with some friends and they both liked it.

Love Jane Yellowrock books!
Love Jane Yellowrock books!

Yeah I'm finally ready but it's been years since I binged the whole series, and three had been published since then. I hate series enders! I haven't read her other series yet but want to try those later too

Just a Heads Up! The 2nd Quarter Bonus Challenge is a Team Challenge, with an early sign up, so if you would like to participate for bonus points, head over to the 2025 The Book Carnival Circuit: Team Reading Challenge thread!
🎡🍿🎭🎟️ Signups will CLOSE on 22-Mar-2025 (sign ups after that date will be reserves)

I'm still thinking about joining this one! I'm very hesitant....sighs It looks fun and I love team challenges but my past history with team challenges where I can't pick my team mates has stopped me from playing them 😰

I'm really looking forward to finally moving and life settling down again so I can get back to some serious reading 😆

UGGHHH!!! That's understandable. I have had a lot going on the last half of 2024 and already this year. I recently moved too. On one hand moving is exciting but on the other I hate it.... it's a lot of hard work and can get costly as well.
I thought life would settle down again once I got moved, and it has some, but not as much as I would like😂
Congrats on your move and good luck to you Sammy!

That sounds like my kind of team :D

That could work so long as tasks aren't too specific and there isn't a whole lot of extra stuff that needs to be done too. (I'm loving Book Quest, but I don't have time to add another challenge that is that much work to update/keep up with/find books to cover tasks. 😆)
Normally I'd love to say "pile it all on", but with all of the weird and wonderful things added to my daily to-do lists right now (today we are making a new garden gate. Just taking a break to defrost extremities and then back to sanding planks!), simple is the way to go for me 😂

Yeah, it's super stressful, especially when you're currently living in a cramped little place and need to try and redecorate while still living in it. Everything takes so long!!!
Hope you're enjoying your new place!

If it helps to know -
The 2nd Quarter Bonus Challenge is a Competitive Team Challenge, but I'm never wildly serious about the "competition", people are always welcome to play "lazily"!
Also, their are no "TASKS" in the challenge, it's spell-out and word in text and genres only. No specific "read a book with this, that, and the other", so it can definitely be more casual.
Team members are only "required" to read 1 book per "attraction", so you could definitely not commit to tons of books if you didn't want to. I am not holding people to their bpm, so if you committed to 3bpm, but end up reading 10, that's fine. There is only a 50 book cap per member.
Also, it is entirely optional, so I don't want anyone to feel as though they HAVE to participate.
If you are interested, or have questions, you can ask here too: 2025 The Book Carnival Circuit: Team Reading Challenge thread!
PS - This is the ONLY Team Competitive Challenge that I have planned for the Impossible Challenge, everything else will be individual!

Would you be happy to group us "lazy" players together? I wouldn't like to drag down a competitive team when things get nutty and I'm up to my ears in packing tape 😆
If anyone is interested in being a "lazy" player, just include that in your sign up and I'll do my best to make that work

I keep checking on that as well - like you, spreadsheet pre-planner and organizer :D
When it's up it will be posted on the SS link and here I'm assuming like she usually does. Still a bit early.

Greetings, Solar System Bibliophiles! It's time to reveal our next bonuses!
🔄 2nd Quarter Bonus Task: Cycles and Rhythms ⏳
Time to loop into our second quarterly bonus task of 2025!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
📚 Read a book where the main character experiences the same day multiple times 📚
⏰ Timeframe: April 1, 2025 - June 30, 2025 ⏰
This task reflects the cyclical nature of planetary orbits and rotations. Dive into a story where time repeats itself, offering new perspectives with each iteration. Share your chosen book in the comments and tell us how the time loop impacts the story. 🌀📖🪐
🌍 Earth: April Timed Task 🌍
As we orbit into April, it's time to celebrate our home planet with a timeless Earth-inspired challenge.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
📚 Read a classic novel that has stood the test of time 📚
⏰ Timeframe: April 1, 2025 - April 30, 2025 ⏰
This task is all about honoring the literary treasures that have shaped our cultural landscape, just as Earth has shaped life as we know it. Whether you pick a centuries-old masterpiece or a more recent classic, make sure it's a book that has made a lasting impact on literature. Don't forget to share your chosen classic in the comments and tell us why you think it has stood the test of time.
Bonus Challenges
April's Bonus Challenge is Theme Throwdown! with Dobby and Smaug facing off!
The 2nd Quarter Bonus Challenge is The Book Carnival Circuit: Team Reading Challenge. Sign ups are closed, but we are accepting backups for players that go missing, so if you are interested, sign up and we will add you if we can!
Formal Buddy Reads
April's Formal Buddy Reads for this month are inspired by the dynastic forces and King's Day! We’ll explore themes of royalty and power, where kingdoms clash, and loyalties are tested amid epic tales of dragons and love.
📚 The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
📚 Crier's War by Nina Varela
Happy reading, and may your month be as rich and diverse as Earth itself! 🌳📖🌊

I find it's withheld the test of time as a classic gothic that has several movies, has been read in schools, a TV show, and still in print.
Hm, for Quarterly, that one probably won't be this month, will have to search for a groundhog type theme later.

Strike that! I have a book already lined up to read next week that fits 😂

Dark matter is alternate universes, not a time loop, but really good regardless 😂

I dislike time loop stories in movies and books for the most part, so will look for something creative to fit or shorter.
I had done Addie LaRue years back and, while the writing style is good, didn't enjoy it much. I don't even like Groundhog Day much as a movie. Happy Deathday horror movie isn't bad at least :D
