C | 899 comments Sammy, if you've voted on lots of lists, doesn't that make finding the specific list still hard?

message 302: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments Only if you've voted on a LOT of lists. There are so very many on Listopia, so I'm finding that the lists with the green tick marks are still only a small percentage of the lists any book is on.

message 303: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments generally takes me less than a minute per book to scan through them.

Sammy wrote: "Also, I used to do reviews for every book I read, but it became a chore, sucking the fun out of reading for me, and I stopped doing so unless I felt very strongly about something, or just wanted to leave myself a reminder for the future.

I started doing it as a way to force myself to slow down and understand what I'm reading. So, I try to make notes as I'm reading, etc., so that I can have something to say and perhaps remember more than a vague idea of what the book was about. I've been really trying to do this with classic literature too, because I struggle with it so much!

I wish GR cared about the lists more! They could definitely be so much more awesome!

I attempted to read this in January. I was not successful. It was written well, but I just thought it was weird and couldn't connect to the characters. I was doing a BR with some friends and they both liked it.

Maybe I'll hop over to the BR....

C | 899 comments Sammy, I'll have to try out that list strategy next time. Although it is still annoying that I have to search through my reading stack to find what lists they're on. I sus I may get tired of that too lol.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments I did okay with February listopia. It was fun with lists but then when others popped up I did not have as much time or luck cross checking. It's such a fast month also, so I did not get nearly all read that I wanted to due to this and distractions into other books and life.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments It's so funny but I found "venus" in text not realizing it's title or series page, so removed a book and will look for one later

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments For Venus, a Jane Yellowrock book I had finished works, Raven Cursed

Love Jane Yellowrock books!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments YES!! I am re-reading the series, then the last of the series (3 I think) will be first time reads for me. Wanted to re-read it in order before finishing it.

I have been putting off reading Final Heir (Jane Yellowrock, #15) - the last book

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments Ashley wrote: "I have been putting off reading Final Heir (Jane Yellowrock, #15) - the last book"

Yeah I'm finally ready but it's been years since I binged the whole series, and three had been published since then. I hate series enders! I haven't read her other series yet but want to try those later too

message 317: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I read the whole series over the last few years. I actually think the spin-off is better!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments I've heard the spin off is good too. Will definitely check it out

I'm still thinking about joining this one! I'm very hesitant....sighs It looks fun and I love team challenges but my past history with team challenges where I can't pick my team mates has stopped me from playing them 😰

message 321: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I'm afraid it's gonna be another nope from me for the quarterly challenge, as I already have FAR too much on, and really can't manage another team challenge on top of it all. 😢

I'm really looking forward to finally moving and life settling down again so I can get back to some serious reading 😆

UGGHHH!!! That's understandable. I have had a lot going on the last half of 2024 and already this year. I recently moved too. On one hand moving is exciting but on the other I hate it.... it's a lot of hard work and can get costly as well.

I thought life would settle down again once I got moved, and it has some, but not as much as I would like😂

Congrats on your move and good luck to you Sammy!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments Lexi wrote: "Maybe we could put together a lazy non competitive team for the extra points?"

That could work so long as tasks aren't too specific and there isn't a whole lot of extra stuff that needs to be done too. (I'm loving Book Quest, but I don't have time to add another challenge that is that much work to update/keep up with/find books to cover tasks. 😆)

Normally I'd love to say "pile it all on", but with all of the weird and wonderful things added to my daily to-do lists right now (today we are making a new garden gate. Just taking a break to defrost extremities and then back to sanding planks!), simple is the way to go for me 😂

Yeah, it's super stressful, especially when you're currently living in a cramped little place and need to try and redecorate while still living in it. Everything takes so long!!!

Hope you're enjoying your new place!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments I love the idea of book carnivale as well and joined up, but agree filling when can as have some other larger team challenges. didn't realize until now it would be the quarterly challenge, made a note now for tracking.

If it helps to know -

The 2nd Quarter Bonus Challenge is a Competitive Team Challenge, but I'm never wildly serious about the "competition", people are always welcome to play "lazily"!

Also, their are no "TASKS" in the challenge, it's spell-out and word in text and genres only. No specific "read a book with this, that, and the other", so it can definitely be more casual.

Team members are only "required" to read 1 book per "attraction", so you could definitely not commit to tons of books if you didn't want to. I am not holding people to their bpm, so if you committed to 3bpm, but end up reading 10, that's fine. There is only a 50 book cap per member.

Also, it is entirely optional, so I don't want anyone to feel as though they HAVE to participate.

If you are interested, or have questions, you can ask here too: 2025 The Book Carnival Circuit: Team Reading Challenge thread!

PS - This is the ONLY Team Competitive Challenge that I have planned for the Impossible Challenge, everything else will be individual!

message 329: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments Awesome!

Would you be happy to group us "lazy" players together? I wouldn't like to drag down a competitive team when things get nutty and I'm up to my ears in packing tape 😆

message 330: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 778 comments I agree. But work travel for me

I keep checking on that as well - like you, spreadsheet pre-planner and organizer :D

When it's up it will be posted on the SS link and here I'm assuming like she usually does. Still a bit early.

Greetings, Solar System Bibliophiles! It's time to reveal our next bonuses!

🔄 2nd Quarter Bonus Task: Cycles and Rhythms
Time to loop into our second quarterly bonus task of 2025!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
📚 Read a book where the main character experiences the same day multiple times 📚
Timeframe: April 1, 2025 - June 30, 2025 ⏰

This task reflects the cyclical nature of planetary orbits and rotations. Dive into a story where time repeats itself, offering new perspectives with each iteration. Share your chosen book in the comments and tell us how the time loop impacts the story. 🌀📖🪐

🌍 Earth: April Timed Task 🌍
As we orbit into April, it's time to celebrate our home planet with a timeless Earth-inspired challenge.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
📚 Read a classic novel that has stood the test of time 📚
Timeframe: April 1, 2025 - April 30, 2025 ⏰

This task is all about honoring the literary treasures that have shaped our cultural landscape, just as Earth has shaped life as we know it. Whether you pick a centuries-old masterpiece or a more recent classic, make sure it's a book that has made a lasting impact on literature. Don't forget to share your chosen classic in the comments and tell us why you think it has stood the test of time.

Bonus Challenges
April's Bonus Challenge is Theme Throwdown! with Dobby and Smaug facing off!
The 2nd Quarter Bonus Challenge is The Book Carnival Circuit: Team Reading Challenge. Sign ups are closed, but we are accepting backups for players that go missing, so if you are interested, sign up and we will add you if we can!

Formal Buddy Reads
April's Formal Buddy Reads for this month are inspired by the dynastic forces and King's Day! We’ll explore themes of royalty and power, where kingdoms clash, and loyalties are tested amid epic tales of dragons and love.
📚 The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
📚 Crier's War by Nina Varela

Happy reading, and may your month be as rich and diverse as Earth itself! 🌳📖🌊

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments Classic will be easy for me, as I've been in the mood to re-read The Haunting of Hill House, well narrated by Bernadette Dunne. This urge came about because I recently re-watching the very well-done show on Netflix by Mike Flanagan.

I find it's withheld the test of time as a classic gothic that has several movies, has been read in schools, a TV show, and still in print.

Hm, for Quarterly, that one probably won't be this month, will have to search for a groundhog type theme later.

message 340: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaruff) | 1728 comments For classic I am planning The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien I am probably one of the few on this planet who have never read this series before despite having watched the movie.

message 341: by Sammy (last edited Mar 30, 2025 12:17PM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments Classics not a problem! I read several every month 😁 spoilt for choice there!

The other one looks trickier. May need to hope for something on audible+ !

Strike that! I have a book already lined up to read next week that fits 😂

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I'm reading The Perfect Run by Maxime J. Durand

Could be pretty dire, but it works for sooooo many challenges 😆

message 346: by Lexi (new)

message 347: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments Evelyn Hardcastle is good! Recursion even more so.

Dark matter is alternate universes, not a time loop, but really good regardless 😂

message 348: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments In fact, there are a few books on that list that don't fit (like Addie LaRue). I'd suggest double-checking whatever people like the look of there, just to be sure.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 902 comments The list is helpful to comb through though, thank you.

I dislike time loop stories in movies and books for the most part, so will look for something creative to fit or shorter.

I had done Addie LaRue years back and, while the writing style is good, didn't enjoy it much. I don't even like Groundhog Day much as a movie. Happy Deathday horror movie isn't bad at least :D

message 350: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I hated Addie with a fiery passion 😂
