Magic can be a tough one as a believer. If the power doesn't come from God, where does it then? Between the Lord and I, I have to sift through each example and use discernment as to whether certain fantasy's magic honors God or not. HP is one I feel lead to not read. I can enjoy others with a clean conscience. As long as I'm thinking critically as I read, and keep checking in with the Lord, I'm ok.

Some authors do a better job at defining their magic than others, and some like Lewis and Tolkien have a presupposition that the audience knows its meant to be a fairy tale and not a guide book to the occult. (Does that make sense?)

We all have to find those lines for us individually with all kinds of content, magic, romance, violence, ect.

But I resoect your honoring your parents Bets, I think thats admirable and will help you down the road in life.

Yeah I don’t read HP either. Partly because I’m not allowed to and the other part is the magic-y stuff…I also heard the author studied witchcraft in order to make the books…

Well, on the subject of magic being given to people... in HP, you're either born with magic, or not. At the school, they just teach you how to use it, but you have to be born with it. Just for the record.

I am sure JK is not a strong supporter of Christians. Id not be surprised if she studied witchcraft, but a lot of authors study things for their books. If she did, I am not aware of her taking it to heart. I can say, I am not sure what the benefit of that would have been to her books.

In the HP books, I did not mind the magic, but I was not taken in by the story. I felt too much of it happened by accident and not by determination (which I think is a more European thing). I also said BS too many times. The reactions of the adults in it I found to be just very uncredible.

I've actually heard that she is a Christian. I'm not sure. But at any rate. she was inspired by Christianity.

Mrs Rowling sides mostly with the left of most issues (in fact, i am not aware where she hasn't). The left answers to a different morality than would seem Christian, and is more into a secular religion than any traditional one. Given her comments and actions siding with the left on many issues, I would think she is not really friendly to Christian pursuits.

Her more recent predicament as one rejected by the woke left, is not really the same as, so she must not be woke. That is just a disagreement between her and the Trans community. She does not like that Trans issues are encroaching on her ideals of feminism.

For me, I become suspicious that she would be an ally to those of faith.

But...I'd not say she is not just trying to figure it out the same as all the rest of us. That is just my observation. The left and Christians do not really fit together well theologically, or philosophically.
