Team Challenge
September 2024 - November 2024

Please take some time and choose a team name. You will also need to choose which clown you want to catch first. Choose wisely because some clown require more than others. As such, those clowns will net more points. Let me know when you have made your choices.

Team
Tori
Wishbear
Michelle

Rules
⛓️Each clown has specific chains and/or tasks that need to be completed.
Examples:
1. Create a chain of 3 using titles consecutively (ABC)
-All the Light We Cannot See
-Becoming Mrs. Lewis
-Catching Fire
2. Create a chain of 3 with "dog" in the titles
-Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
-The Dog Stars
-Hot Dog Girl

⛓️One person should NOT complete a whole chain by themselves. This is a team challenge. However, if a clown has multiple chains and a slower reader can only/want to only read for 1 or 2 chains (they must read at least one), then the other two faster readers on the team can complete the other chains between the two of them.
⛓️You may choose which clown from the list to capture first but you MUST complete it BEFORE starting a new clown.
⛓️You may use or drop articles: A, An, The
⛓️If you somehow manage to incorporate a Buddy Read into a chain, you can earn points based on the BR tier system. description
⛓️Standard Rules Apply
⛓️At the end of the official challenge (last day of November), your team may choose to continue on at your own pace. There will be no points accumulated after November but you can finish any clowns that you didn't get to during the challenge.

Scoring
You will get 3 points for every completed book (9 per completed chain) PLUS page points.

Both Tori and Wishbear have responded to my PMs. Tori said she is sick but wants to play (she says she is starting to feel better so hopefully it won't be long). You guys can pick a team name and clown and get started. I will tell her to jump in.

message 8: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments do you have a clown or a team name?

message 9: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7697 comments Mod
You will need to save her 1 task for the 1st clown to do and nobody can do a chain by themselves. Does that makes sense?

message 10: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments I have The Bozos or the Krustys and I don't care which clown we start with but I'll put Jack forward as a suggestion

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7697 comments Mod
The list of clowns is in message 2. You two will need to choose the team name.

message 12: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments @donna, yes, that makes sense

I will be unavailable in the morning tomorrow EDT to give you tasks but I will be back in the afternoon. However, I will unfortunately be up late tonight. They are making me drink some nasty prep kit in preparation for tomorrow morning. So if you submit your clown before 2 AM EDT I should still be awake.

Tori Wilson (therealogchaosgoblin) Hey guys! I am checking in now, sorry for being a bit late.

Jack
description
Jack is a demonic entity bound to a toy box. He uses the jack in the box as a vessel to claim souls. The cursed toy is both his prison and his method of hunting. Anyone who winds up the toy and releases him becomes his next target.
Jack's curse has a set of rules. He must claim six victims before he can return to his box. The person who opens the box is the final victim. He uses brutal violence and psychological manipulation to claim victims.
Jack is purely malevolent. He delights in the fear and suffering of his victims. He is patient and will slowly pursue his prey, appearing in & out of the box. He is cold & calculating each move, toying with victims and instilling them with fear before finally killing them.

Complete these tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books where a character goes hunting
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a 6 in the page count
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books with a character under a curse in the story
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a toy on the cover

When you decide on a team name, let me know. For now your spreadsheet is message 1.

message 21: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments I'm reading Ninth House for the Buddy Read. It fits Arm 1, Arm 2, and possibly Leg 1.

These are great names Michelle. I like Twinkle Toots and Gruesome Gigglers

message 23: by Tori (new)

Tori Wilson (therealogchaosgoblin) I love Gruesome Gigglers :) If we have to do a chain for Arm 1, would I need to choose a book that starts with the letter O with a character that goes hunting?

message 24: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7697 comments Mod
Each chain is separate. See message 1 for examples.

Wishbear | 123 comments Tori wrote: "I love Gruesome Gigglers :) If we have to do a chain for Arm 1, would I need to choose a book that starts with the letter O with a character that goes hunting?"

for Arm 1 we just need to read three books that have a character that goes hunting. We don't need to link them otherwise.

Also, I will go to the check-in thread to request our name change.

LOL, why didn't you tell me your names weren't populated in your SS? I am fixing that now. You may need to change some things so please check that the correct name is with each book.

Honestly, I thought it was supposed to be like that...LOL.

I was gonna go with it.

Michelle | 2129 comments The curse one is stumping me.

message 30: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments Michelle wrote: "The curse one is stumping me."

I'm reading Thinner. It's a shorter novel written by Stephen King in the early 80s. If you can get passed the fact that G*psy is used 6000 times, It's about a guy who is cursed after running over an old lady and facing no legal conequences. It's a quick read and fits the challenge.

Also, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast or other fairy tales would work for curse.

message 31: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments I guess i should have checked the spreadsheet before replying. I'm a little behind again. I'll have Thinner finished tonight and I should have a toy book finished by end of day tomorrow (Tuesday). Sorry for holding everyone up. My mom moved out of her 5bedroom house into a 2bedroom condo at the end of last week and while the move went well, it still took more of my reading time than I had budgeted for.

message 32: by Tori (new)

Tori Wilson (therealogchaosgoblin) I could definitely understand that! We just moved from one three bed apartment to an upstairs three bed and it took about a week to get through all that.

Thanks Tori. We started the downsizing and packing in July so by the end, there wasn't that much to move. She still kept too much stuff, but my super orgainized, gets things done aunt is back from her two month vacation and will help my mom unpack. My aunt is ruthless and will boss my mom into decluttering. Gotta love a baby sister that is used to getting her siblings to do anything she wants...I love her to pieces and she is my 2nd best friend after my ma. :)

Jojo the Klownzilla and the Klowns
description
Jojo is the 18 foot tall leader of the killer klowns with yellow eyes and purple hair. All the other killer klowns show formal respect to him.

The Klowns look like circus clowns but they are murderous aliens. Their names are Jumbo, Fatso, Shorty, Rudy, Spike, Slim, Bibbo, Chubby, Frank, Joe, Slam, Mojo, Bippo, Bash, Killbo, Danny, Crinkles, Magori, Storefront, Talls, Rosebud and Daisy. They invade a small town to capture, kill and harvest humans. The Klowns shoot humans with popcorn from bazooka-like weapons. Humans that are captured are encased in pink cotton candy like cocoons using ray gun weapons. Then the Klowns drink human blood while they are in the cocoons.

There are so many Klowns so each team will be assigned a Klown to catch & cage.

First, you will need a cage: Read a book with all the letters of CAGE in the title
then
Spell out the Klown's name
You have been assigned: JUMBO

J
U
M
B
O

To capture JOJO Complete these tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with purple covers (minimum 50%)
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books tagged aliens
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books with 18 intact in the page count
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books set in small towns

message 39: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments Thanks Donna.

Team, I'm working on the cage book and should have it finished tomorrow morning.

I've also populated the spreadsheet with all the tasks and will work on plugging my books in. Now that the move is over, I'm excited to have this new project. :D

message 40: by Wishbear (last edited Sep 19, 2024 09:07AM) (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments Also, I was reading through the Q & A and we need to do the Cage book and the spell out before we do the chains. I have a B book that I have to finish by the end of the weekend for my bookclub and I can get one more book done as well. I don't have anything else on deck so I'm open to finding a more difficult spell out letter

message 41: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2129 comments I got the J in Jumbo covered.

message 42: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments I finished the cage book and am starting on the U in Jumbo.

@Tori, do you have a book that works for M or O?

message 43: by Tori (new)

Tori Wilson (therealogchaosgoblin) I logged books for M and O, I'm looking to see what I have what I have to meet all the prompts to actually catch him next

message 44: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2129 comments I finished J.

message 45: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments Good job everyone. Now to fit the tasks. They didn't seem hard at first read but now that I'm looking, It's taking some time. I'm also doing Turf Wars with the AMMP Game Night group so I'm trying to make the books maximize points on both teams. :)

message 46: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2129 comments I have finished all 4 of my tasks

message 47: by Tori (new)

Tori Wilson (therealogchaosgoblin) I am working on my final task, should be done in the morning

message 48: by Wishbear (new)

Wishbear | 123 comments I'll have my books finished by the end of the day and will check us in. Which clown do we want to do next?

Art
description
Art is a demonic killer clown who is mute and mimes. He only appears on Halloween nights to wreak havoc and torture. He appears in all black & white carrying a black trash bag with various crude weapons. His face is painted pale white, while his eyes, mouth, and eyebrows are painted black. He wears a white bald cap on his head, complete with a small black hat strapped to the top.

Art is extremely dangerous. He slaughters nearly everyone he encounters. He has supernatural abilities and can induce paralyzing fear in his victims. He will chase, stalk, and terrorize his victims. Then he decides whether to sadistically mutilate them or spare their lives, leaving them with the trauma he has inflicted on them. He never speaks but he will mime screams of pain when injured. Art is very theatrical while killing in a very animated and comedic manner. He silently laughs during his sadistic pursuits. When cornered, he does exhibit cowardly tendencies. He will cheat or shoot himself rather than deal with the police. His arrogance does tend to crumble when the odds shift and victims fight back.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with white covers (minimum 50%)
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a hat (or more) on the cover
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books that start with a letter in ART (team must choose one letter)
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with characters with supernatural abilities
