Probably published 2010ish, I think there were three of them. The covers were grayscale sort of charcoal-ey.

I started the first one and I think it was about a kid who could get vibes from metal? And might have kept a safety pin in his pocket? And I think his family members could sense different materials too. I feel like it was set in UK ish, and one of the titles might have included "iron" and one of them might have included "borough."

I never got to finish so I don't know the actual plot.
