August 2024 Group Read #1 - The Only Good Indians

Here's my review, essentially spoiler-free - - - if you're on the fence about reading this book, this might persuade you. I recommend it to almost everyone . . . . . .https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Same here--definitely my top read by SGJ!

If you're up for a trilogy, try MY HEART IS A CHAINSAW first and then move onto the next two. Although, you can read it as a standalone. The story ends, and the other two books begin new stories.
A good werewolf novel with a bit of symbolism is MONGRELS.

I read this one a couple years ago and so I'm looking forward to chatting and seeing what other people thought of it.

I agreeeee!!! Glad I wasn't the only one lol, I kept having to re-read sentences because the order of certain words tripped me up! 😆 I'm getting a hang of his writing now though, and the plot really picked up after after that event with Lewis and Shaney.

His writing style is typically very unconventional. I've struggled through a few of his stories and have given up on trying to read him.

I can see that. We'll see how this book goes and then I'll decide if I will read more of his books.

His writing style is definitely unique and takes some time getting used to. After a bit, though, I came to love the way he writes.

This was first SGJ, too. The cultural insights were a highlight for me, as well.

I have a couple of questions, for those who are done as well. Don't unhide the spoiler tag if you haven't finished the book, I got major spoilers in them:

Anyways, I love Denorah. ❤️❤️ She's the highlight of this book for me. I'm not sure if I'll read another by SGJ but I'm glad I checked this one out.

Like I observed before, this authors writing style was a little bit all over the place at times and the beginning of this book lagged because of that. Once the story started to pick up I was able to get into a good pace and overall I thought it was an interesting story that was creative. It lost a star because there were times where the writing went in circles but other than that it was a fun ride. I do have one question that involves the ending so I won't ask until I am sure everyone is finished. I have also been interested in SGJ's The Indian Lake Trilogy for some time, has anyone read it/ recommends it??
