SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. YA novel 1980s. TW - Abuse. The main character is female, in either late middle school or early high school. She lives with her mother in I believe California. The mothers younger brother comes to visit. He is in his 20s from what I can recall. [s]

Charmaine | 11 comments Before he visits, I recall the mother cautioning the main character to be careful. The uncle starts grooming the main character. Things escalate. The mother finds out, and I don't recall the ending.

Does anyone recall this book? Thanks in advance.

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments Chilly Stomach must be too young, since it sounds like you're looking for a novel.

Silver does have a sexually abusive uncle, but it's not the MC who is abused, but her friend.

I thought Silver too and recently bought it, but that was not it, sadly. You are correct. Chili Stomach is a bit younger. I appreciate your suggestions, though

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments Was your book definitely from the '80s?

Uncle Vampire is from 1993.

Charmaine | 11 comments 99.9% sure it was 80s. The uncle was in a band or worked in a restaurant, I think. I checked your link, and it definitely is not Uncle Vampire, but I appreciate the suggestion

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments Any chance it could be the mother's boyfriend and not an uncle?

My Mother's Boyfriend and Me matches your time frame.

Charmaine | 11 comments Very possibly, I am going to order the book to read it again. I remember one key line which gave me the ick. I will let you know once I read it.

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments Fingers crossed!

What was the line in question? I did find a preview on Google Books.

The uncle (or possibly Mom's boyfriend) says, "Are you ready, we are making love"

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments Thanks!

I can't find that specific line in the Google preview, but that's not uncommon as often not all pages are included.

Charmaine | 11 comments I appreciate you checking.

Charmaine | 11 comments @rainbowheart, I just finished rereading My Mother's Boyfriend and Me, and I definitely read it back in the day. However, it is not the book I was thinking of. The search continues. I appreciate your suggestions:)

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments A Different Kind of Love?

A teen girl and her mother in Southern California are visited by the mother's younger brother, a drummer in an up-and-coming rock band who decides to stay with them for a while, but his affectionate behavior toward her confuses young Weeble. Is it possible to have romantic feelings for one's uncle? And what happens when he returns those feelings?
