Read the series maybe in 2018-2022 and the book itself was published MAX 15 years ago. I'm pretty sure there was some romance too. In the following books the characters have to deal with PTSD from losing classmates/friends in the survival test and they rebel against it. I don't know how it ends, I've never actually finished the series :/ I guess it's a mix between The Hunger Games and Divergent in some ways. Other than the fact that (I'm 99% sure) it's female written, I don't remember anything about the author.

Yesterday, I spent about 5 hours looking for this. Today, I finally found it (took 15 minutes). The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau. My life is a joke sometimes.
