Desperately in need of a good book!

Hi All,

I'm in a bit of a book slump... nothing I read is really all that good lately. Nice stories but nothing to die for.

My favourite authors are Anne Stuart, Linda Howard, Kresley Cole, Nalini Singh.

Favorite series: Psy-Changeling, IAD, Up In the Air.

I love all romance books: paranormal, romantic suspense, historical...

Lately, I'm finding rereading my favourites from the above writers are better than any new book I've come across.

Can someone suggest some really good books. It can be by any author, as long as it is a really great read.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Romance is not one of my genres, but. If you are interested in the classics, there's Jane Austen. Gone with the Wind has tons of romance and is a great saga. For light very old fashioned romances, there's Georgette Heyer.

I have the same problem, so I'll tell you my go-to re-read-a-million-times series:

*SUSPENSE ROMANCE: The In Death series by J.D. Robb; first book is Naked in Death. They're AWESOME!!! Eve and Roarke are my FAVORITE romance couple of all time! :) (J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts, but the writing style is SO DIFFERENT that there are actually a lot of people who read Robb who aren't really fans of other NR books.)

*CONTEMPORARY: The FBI/US Attorney series by Julie James; first book is Something About You. They're just awesome. The writing, the powerful heroines (and heroes). The snarkiness. She has two stand-alone books that are really good, too.

*HISTORICAL: Anything by Julia Quinn. Her Bridgerton series is probably her most popular. First book there is The Duke and I. But I'll read anything that woman writes! :)

I also enjoy Nora Roberts but wasn't sure if I should try her JD Robb books. Think I will now.

The contemporary sounds good also.

Loved Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series, read all.

I would recommend Thea Harrison, her Elder Races series is really good and Jennifer Ashley, her Shifters Unbound series if you prefer PNR or her Highland Pleasures series if you like Historical :)

Have you read Lisa Kleypas?I would totally recommend the contemporary Travis Family series: Sugar Daddy Blue-Eyed Devil and Smooth Talking StrangerAlso you could try Susan Elizabeth Phillips.Classic contemporary romance! A great book I also read is On the Island

What is IAD?

Since it sounds like you like romance with a splash of fantasy or paranormal, try Sharon Shinn's Samaria series, starting with Archangel.

For straight romance, my two all-time favorites are:
(1) Salem's Daughter. Set in the 1600s, follows red-haired Bristol Adams from Salem, MA to London and back again. Witch trials, kidnapping, insanity, and a hot French ship captain.
(2) Wings of the Falcon, set in 1800s Italy. A Zorro-like hero, near death at the hands of a madwoman, ancient Etruscan tombs, etc.

If you like books about shifters with some fun dialog, romance and action, try the Ridgeville series by Celia Kyle. Start with "He Ain't Lion (Ridgeville #1)" There are some box sets with multiple books in them.

Sounds like you would like the Mercy Thompson series, by Patricia Briggs.

The covers are truly awful, one of those cases where the illustrator didn't read the novel. The books themselves are very good.

If you like historical their is Chernobyl by Frederik Pohl. Its pretty interesting.

Perhaps a one-off palate cleanser? It doesn't really fit any of the genres you mention, but it's a great book to sort get you rebooted pethaps. Oh Dear Silvia

I second the Thea Harrison, J.D. Robb & Julie James recommendations. The authors that you mention tend to write about flawed and sometimes dark characters who find themselves at least somewhat redeemed by love. I suggest you check out Kristen Callihan's Darkest London series, Jill Sorenson's Aftershock series and Shannon McKenna's McClouds & Friends series.

You might like the London Steampunk series which starts with Kiss of Steel or the Kate Daniel's books starting with Magic Bites.

For Contemporary: a new author I found was Chris Keniston. Grace Callaway has a bunch of historical romances that are pretty sexy. I've also enjoyed Sabrina Jeffries especially her Hellions of Hallstead Hall series. If you like sexy vampires you can check out Tina Folsom starting with Samson's Lovely Mortal and for sexy wolves I've enjoyed Lesli Richardson's Bleacke Shifters.

Have you tried reading books by Juliet Marillier, Jodi Taylor or Deborah Harkness? I love them all :)
