MARTINA'S UPDATE: 7 COMPLETED

Just finished Wraith by Phaedra Weldon (****) and enjoyed it quite a bit! It's urban fantasy rather than paranormal romance. I'd say it's comparable to the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson as well as a little like the Mercy Hollings series by Toni Andrews, so if you like either of those, definitely give Wraith a try. I'd almost classify them as a dark supernatural mystery. Oh, and if you live around Atlanta, GA then make sure to check it out as there's TONS of local color in this one!

Eighth Grade Bits was cute enough, but a bit too young for me (this coming from someone in their 30s who regularly reads YA). Undoubtedly a great series for a younger young adult.

MARTINA'S UPDATE: 8 COMPLETED

I decided to change my A/B selection from The Trouble With Demons (character Raine Benares) by Lisa Shearin to Soul Deep (character Amanda Marion) by Lora Leigh.

Soul Deep (***) is the 5th book in the Breed Series or the 1st book in the Coyote Breed Series - depending on how you decide to count. I love the Breed series overall, but some books are definitely better than others. Soul Deep fell in the middle of the batch for me. I think this is because it wasn't as "in-depth" as the books further into the series. There just wasn't enough background about the two lead characters for me to begin to care about them. And, their whirlwind "romance" just wasn't believable, but then again, the book is only 190 pages. But, I love the series as a whole and will therefore continue reading the ones I've missed. :-) Oh, and as a warning to those who don't know this series but are considering it - this isn't just PNR, it's erotica. The sex scenes are VERY hot and can get a bit kinky. Which I love.

They were all 3 and 4 stars, plus I have few new characters to add to my favorite's list. You really just have to push through the first book and remember they do get better.

The first book is a novella in the anthology Playing Easy to Get. It's called "The Warlord Wants Forever" and she has it available for free on her website, I think. If you start with #2, which is the first full length book, A Hunger Like No Other, you should be fine. I didn't read the first one and I never felt lost.
