Monthly Challenge: June 2024

Welcome to our monthly Listopia Madness challenge. It is a relatively simple challenge. Every month you will get 3 listopia lists from me and 3 from the winners of the previous month. *Please note that if you do not respond in a reasonable amount of time that the 4th place person (and so on) will replace you until we get 3 lists.

How it works
📘You will read as many books as you want from as many of the lists provided as you want.
📘You will score each book using the point system provided below
📘You will keep a running tally of your total in your post (try to keep your books in one comment, if possible for easy tracking)
📘I will contact the 3 highest-scoring readers at the end of the month and they will each choose one listopia list to be included in the next month's challenge.

Challenge rules:
📘No poetry or cookbooks allowed.
📘Standard Rules Apply

Now, an Asimov or Heinlein marathon, I would totally do.

message 19: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I do keep intending to finally get around to Starship Troopers (one of the few Heinleins I've not read yet), but it's a print copy and I already have a lot of those lined up. Might be able to squeeze it in at the end of the month though if anyone fancies it?

I've similar issues with asimov, but want to do a robots re-read in a few months, as I replaced my tattered old copies with these a little while ago;

I love Starship Troopers. I even love the silly movie they made. It has almost nothing to do with the book, but it is great camp.

Hey, I gave you options in the egg hunt. You could have read books with colored covers... which would have worked for UNO. Every one of those eggs had the option to read a book with the cover the color of the egg. You chose to read the other option.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments They were usually the wrong colours 😆 My team mates mostly didn't want to read for the green and yellows, so muggins here took most of those. Of course, I was making it harder on myself by trying to match the shade of the eggs to my book covers as much as possible too. 😂

I always flail a bit when I'm doing more than one competitive challenge at a time. I have to choose which gets priority, and then I go back and forth and do less well on both. Unfortunately there are far too many fun challenges to do! 😉

message 30: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7436 comments Mod
ROFL! I would never fault you if it wasn't a perfect match to the color on the egg. You put too much pressure on yourself.

message 31: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I know, it was just me making things complicated for myself.

Like I'm limiting myself to books added before this year for the TBR challenge. It adds some extra interest for me, and means I don't shoot so far ahead of people who don't read such a ridiculous amount. Makes it a little more competitive for me, and hopefully a little less disheartening for people who read normal amounts of books 😂

With the egg hunt it seemed like only a couple of us were playing, and I was pretty far ahead, so I never got that competitive kick up the bum that is the fun part of competitive challenges, so I was adding in little things like that to keep myself interested. if I'd known Angie was sitting on hers, I would have known better 😂

message 32: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7436 comments Mod
We ended up with 6 people in the end. We even lost Tru which surprised me. This is why I want to do multiple levels next year. Keep you guys separated from the regular competitive people so they don't all drop out. There were people that signed up from the beginning as non-competitive that had me raising my eyebrows because that was unusual for them. They always sign up for my team challenges. I think separating the power readers into a higher competitive group will make them want to compete.

message 33: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments Makes sense to me. I do often worry about putting less insane people off playing some of these challenges, so separate levels would help with that.
