Also, we should number them (edit: both the question and all answers)

We'll have to see if anyone else wants to play, or if I can come up with another one that I like...

4) [edit removed, no longer current]
Here's my next one:
5) Two short other-worldly creatures on a quest join a rustic fisherman (who likes a nice pipeful), to secure the succession in his kingdom while his king, old and doddering, has left it in the hands of his dwarf (and near deaf) counselor. They take a long arduous journey to the north and eventually achieve their goals.

Edited: Just's guess for #4 is correct, (view spoiler) .
#5...I think...is it (view spoiler) ?

But yeah, you nailed mine too :P
I need some better stumpers. Hmph.

Either that or our brains are entangled at the quantum level ;)

6) Military faux pas results in big Vegas get-together, ends with a bang.

7) Failed industrialist passes on his legacy to a very young protege, there are serious doubts as to whether the young person will be able make good on the opportunity.

8) Nothing happens and the guy never shows up.

Edited: Lobstergirl's guess for #8 is correct, (view spoiler)

For 7, my mind goes to Dickens, Fitzgerald, and Dreiser, although it's probably none of them. Probably something I haven't read.
9 is not ringing any bells either.
9 is not ringing any bells either.

HINT time: I suspect almost everyone has read #7
Dang, I totally would've gotten #8 if I'd been on, but I thought it was a play?
I guess I should try making mine shorter... so I don't give it all away so quickly...
I have no idea on #9
Dang, google just guessed my next one. I guess it was too straightforward. Hmph. Maybe I can get it reformulated and edit this post... or maybe I'll go to sleep.
7)
9)
Alright, this isn't the one I was going with originally, but google ain't eating it, so...
10) In frustration, MC starts training a group of young people to combat a threat to his government and his culture.

#10 (view spoiler)

And that totally reads like internet spam, so my mind is completely refusing to process it :P

And that totally reads like internet spam, so my mind is completely refusing to process it :P"
Bolded...and yeah that's kind of the point. I really wanted to use the full one weird trick discovered by a _____, but I couldn't think of anything popular enough that it would fit.

I haven't read it in 30+ years. It was a bit of a stretch. lol

Hmm, was (view spoiler) a novel first (I know there was a novelization, but that's pretty much cheating IMHO)? I might try that for a guess on #11.

You guys are going to kick yourselves when someone gets it right...
Also, it's never to late to read at least that first book. It's a classic, and if you've got 30+ years under your belt, it'll read quick.

Books mentioned in this topic
A Little Princess (other topics)The Honest Truth (other topics)
Paper Towns (other topics)
On the Road (other topics)
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (other topics)
I'll go first:
1) Lonely AI forments a revolution in order to make friends.

(edit):
HOW TO POSE A STUMPER:
A): Refresh your page, to make sure someone else hasn't just posted a stumper - then number your question, in sequential order with existing questions.
B) Use [strong][/strong] (with angle-brackets instead of square brackets) to make your question bold (and easy to find on the page)
C) Try to write something distinctive enough to only apply to a book (hopefully unambiguous that only one book qualifies) Preferably a novel that's somewhat popular - so many people have a chance to solve it - as this is to be a game/fun, actual work is in the UNSOLVED folder. ;) Brief, but not too brief.
D) Run your description through Google to make sure it doesn't come up as an "I'm Feeling Lucky" or in the first page of results.
E) Then come back later (sooner, than late) and see what people have guessed and tell them when they've guessed correctly. Please restate the correct answer when you tell them they're correct.
HOW TO ANSWER:
A) Number your answer, so we know which question you're attempting to guess...
B) Put your answer in a [spoiler][/spoiler] tag, so latecomers can still try guessing.
C) If you only want to see the un-guessed stumpers, go towards the end of the thread. We're trying to keep a summary of the ones which have not been correctly guessed... Otherwise, you can test your skills by reading through, and guessing along. ;)
