Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments I only just realized that the book I finished yesterday can be used here.
I've read In Their Footsteps / Thief Of Hearts by Tess Gerritsen. It contains 2 books. One of them (Thief of Hearts) was also published as Stolen.

I'm not really sure about the points, though!

Title: 0
Author: 0

Cover: 4 (has no more than 3 colors on it: In Their Footsteps / Thief Of Hearts by Tess Gerritsen - red, blue, white)
Pages: 3 (or 5?) - this combined edition has 523 pages, but Thief of Heart/Stolen only has 330)
Bonus: 0

Total: 12 or 14 points? 12 points it is!

I'd go with the pages for the novel and not the omnibus. So 12 points.

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I should mention that I need to have both titles reported. Report the title of the issue you read and follow with the alternate title.

Following Elsbeth's example: Thief of Hearts aka Stolen.

Susan Guard | 695 comments OK, Just finished up Twinkle, Twinkle Little Spy by Len Deighton (also titled Catch a Falling Spy https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...). This was a spy thriller written back in the 70's with a Cold War setting and I'm afraid I didn't really enjoy the read, I just finished it for the challenge. I'm still not really sure what the objective of the mission was. Perhaps I was expecting a little more James Bond or Jason Bourne.

Points for this one:

both titles have the word "spy"

If I've added correctly I think I have 20 points for this one.

message 25: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Janice wrote: "You managed to get two of the bonuses. I've been so involved in my book, I'm not even watching for them."

I wasn't looking for them either. I had only been worried about identifying a book I already owned that really had two different titles. Then, when I looked at the scoring the bonuses were really simple. The twins are characters that go throughout the book as well, so it was easy to remember them.

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I finished my challenge book!

And Then There Were None (aka Ten Little Niggers or Ten Little Indians - Glad they changed the title!! Yikes.)

+2 264 pages
+0 “Ten” in original title, “none” in this one, but not really a number in my book title (2)
+4 Agatha Christie is from the UK
+5 Agatha Christie also wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott, and was occasionally published under the name Agatha Christie Mallowan.
+0 uses three names Agatha Christie Mallowan, but not listed that way on my book (3)
+2 Mystery
+4 No more than 3 colors
+2 Title is in white font
= 19 points!

message 27: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I agree. "None" isn't what I had in mind when awarding points to a number being in the title.

Good choice, Kristie.

message 32: by Lanelle (last edited Apr 20, 2015 11:45AM) (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I read Second Thyme Around, first published as Thyme Out. It's my favorite of Katie Fforde's books. It was specially poignant this time because the main character nurses her elderly friend until her death and I was my mother's caretaker until she passed away last month.

Now for the points:

Title -
3 points: both titles have the same word (Thyme)

Author -
4 points: author is from the UK

Genre -
3 points: romance

Cover -
3 points: author's name is across the top

Pages -
3 points: 385 pages

Bonus Points -
no twins
3 points: England and Scotland
only been married once

Total points - 19 points

(I'm not really sure 'second' is a number. Let me know if I need to change my score.)
Points have been adjusted.

I disallowed "none", so I think I need to disallow "second". I was thinking more along the lines of an actual number - 1, 2, 3, or one two three, etc.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I didn't really but I think anyone who liked her other books will (I was never a fan).

The ending was a little abrupt but the first 3/4 of the book had a good story. A couple spunky female characters and a little romance and quite a bit of action, the war kind that is. :)

message 49: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments No need to be sorry, Janice. Your challenge, your rules. I am happy that I read the book.

I am trying hard to like Hercule Poirot. I think I tried years ago and failed. I don't care all that much for Captain Hastings, but he was only in 9 books. I have two more books to read that I already own and that may be it for the series. I can abandon it for the challenge without any lingering feelings of loss.

I've been enjoying her Mistress of the Art of Death series, so if the opportunity to read this book presents itself, I'll probably read it too.
