Enjoying it so far....thoughts to follow.

Reread this Austen classic after ages as I had a retelling coming up. A good experience, as always. Austen is amazing!

Petteril's Thief

It's the first one in a series by an author well known for her historical romances and historical mystery-romances.
No romance here, only a cozy mystery but the premises lead me to believe that in the future there will also be a pinch (very little) of romance.

A dual timeline novel, with the historical timelines based on actual love letters written by the author's great-grandparents to each other. This is what made me give the novel a go. The historical timeline makes it a good read.

Vienna Wolfe

This was a fun deviation for me from fiction.

A loose retelling of Jane Austen's 'Mansfield Park', but works much better if you don't read it as a retelling.

I am hooked by the premise, which is that roles have switched - pre 16th century - women provided free medicine and doctors were looked on with suspicion. Then a switch occurred where doctors were still likely to kill you, but you paid money to have them do it...and so successful was the subterfuge that women healers were discredited. Phew! And that's just chapter two...

A twisty, atmospheric, dual time-line thriller that takes place in a remote section of the Adirondacks during the 1960 and 70s.

A memoir by the woman whose life inspired 'The Sound of Music'. Recommended only to staunch fans of the musical/movie.

I had grabbed this before I learnt how much hype surrounded the book. Thankfully, it's quite nice, though not flawless. Good for an light and entertaining cosy fantasy read.

I finished Murder at the Mortuary by Lee Strauss book 5 of the series. It is 1924 and Ginger is driving all over London. Fun series. I like the undertones of acceptability of women's roles changing. You have Ginger's Grandmother stuck in the Victorian/Edwardian ear and Ginger being a modern woman. I will continue with the series.

A book based on the actual Rhinelander vs. Rhinelander case in 1925 in the USA. Would have worked better for me if it actually focussed more on the legal proceedings than staying put on the outside of the courtroom.

I have added to my TBR list. I have been to Egypt.

A dual-timeline novel with the historical part focussing on an actual 17th century woman who was a highway robber. Worth a read for her story.

A good option for fans of 'The Sound of Music, as long as you don't mind your hearts breaking.

One of the two timelines is set in 1964.

Reading Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir. After our second British Isles cruise, I am reading English related books that I own,

A look at the friendship between First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune, was was called the "First Lady of the Struggle". Their accomplishments were remarkable, however, I found the book to be repetitive and lacking in forward momentum.

I had fun reading this!

One of the best indie novels I have read in a long time. Great use of the triple narrative voices.

Cheryl; Glad you posted this as I enjoy well written YA novels. Have recommended Hardscrabble to our library. And doesn't it feel good to "downsize" our TBR list!
