Yay! I love Canavan too--I was super bummed to miss out on the Millennium's Rule read last year... couldn't squeeze it in... haven't read those yet...
I'm a little behind with an end of February buddy read spilling into March so I probably won't get to this one until later in the week
It's interesting how this book/series is 50% 4-5 stars, and 50% DNFs on the front page of reviews AND my friend list...

I haven't started yet but I've read it a few times so I remember it pretty well. I don't see how anyone could not love it honestly, everything about it is just perfection. In my fangirling opinion :D.
Monika wrote: "Up to chapter 4. Hmmm Auraya seems mature... Why she was the Chosen?"That's the question isn't it! :D
I can tell you why, but what would be a spoiler!
Started this one on my lunch break but only got through the prologue. Not many thoughts yet but hopefully I'll read more after work today
I'm so eager to join you guys but I really think it will be next week, I just don't have the time this week and I'm in the middle of several BRs
Up to chapter 10. Mischief is interesting creature 😄. Hmmm Emerahl intriguing me. Is she a Wild??? Hmmm.

Just started, through Chapter 4. It's been ages since I read this series, and I'm realizing that while I remember most of the major reveals (I think), I've forgotten all of the details. Which is not a bad place to be in a reread. (view spoiler)
Up to chapter 17. Tryss is smart one, unfortunately his cousins are pain... Emerahl has some knowledge and gifts for sure... I do think she's the Hag...
@Monika, Tryss' cousins are awful, I always rooted for Tryss, he's such a clever and good hearted person. @Nirkatze (view spoiler)
@Monika & Charlie, re: Cousins--oh, that chapter made me so mad!!! Though it also emphasizes the feeling of the Siyee as child-like... those are the antics of jealous children, yet they are supposed to be cusping adults...@Charlie re: gods--(view spoiler)
Through Ch. 4... The Siyee are very interesting! I am a first time reader and already am fascinated with this world, despite not really having any idea what the heck is going on... I am not worried though, because I trust the author will let me know as we read on... You guys know how much I love religion/politics in my stories, so I am very excited to be here.
Auraya is obviously a very bright young person from the start, now I hope she would be able to bridge those different cultures and help her world get along better...
I wonder how big of a role the old wizard woman and the girl she helped will have in the story going forward. I am very intrigued by her. Also, I want her to kick that horrible father's ass!!!
I love the way this author writes and I am sure she will not let us down!

Regarding the old woman... (view spoiler)
Glad to see your enthusiasm, @Choko! I really enjoyed Emerahl in this book--I can't believe I totally forgot about her!@Charlie--loving your deeper analysis, re: through Chapter 14--(view spoiler)
I am up to Ch. 18 and I agree with you, Charlie. Auraya is very likable and the Siyee are magical! I really hope The Landwalkers of all ilks don't destroy them by involving them in their political wars... They are too beautiful and fragile to be in the midst of all this brutality... I also agree with Nirkatze... (view spoiler)
Finished... I enjoyed it, although I think I am seeing some patterns that I am guessing will lead to an inevitable end by the third book finale ... (view spoiler)This author definitely has a style of writing and creating her stories that is very hers, and I am one of those people, like Charlie, who enjoys it:))) I am excited to be reading another series by her with you guys!!!
Grats on the finish, Choko! I love your theorizing, and comparison to Discworld. I'm pretty sure we get a POV from the Pentadarian side in the next book, so I'm looking forward to seeing the justification for everything and getting more clues on those theories...@Charlie--thank you for the age numbers! I also like your description of Emerahl as a "pragmatist"--that's really her to a T! And something to admire.
If you are enjoying the writing so much, I'd love to continue on to the Black Magician series after we finish this...
Also, are folks good with keeping the 1st of the month for the next few books? If April 1st & May 1st work for y'all, I'll put in requests.
Up to chapter 30. New nation. Interesting. Not easy bit for Auraya. I like Tryss more and more 😁. Curious about Dreamweavers and what Emerahl will do.
@Nirkatze I would love to reread Black Magician, happy for the 1st of the month going forward. Are we starting with the prequal?@Monika Absolutely not easy for Auraya! She definitely has an interesting first year as a White.
@Choko I soooooo want to comment on all your theories but I can't because of SPOILERS :D. I will say (view spoiler)
