My review for contemporary The Heart Is a Star
by Australian Megan Rogers Such A BEAUTIFUL cover...I read it for a challenge; the 2024 Genera challenge and I was a bit excited for an Australian contemporary. This one has a couple of the issues that have slowly led me AWAY from Australian literature recently though, so only 2*

I finished
Pru and Me: The Amazing Marriage of Prunella Scales and Timothy West by Timothy West.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Recommend if you have enjoyed the TV programme, Great Canal Journeys.
Rachel: Brumby hunter, medicine woman, bushrangers' ally and troublemaker for good . . . the remarkable pioneering life of Rachel Kennedy by Australian author Jeff McGill is the biographical story of Warrumbungle mountains pioneer Rachel Kennedy. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
Enjoyed this sequel to the Emily Wilde series. A great read for cosy fantasy fans, but in the right series order.

Sun Seekers: A Novel, the debut novel by Rachel McRady was only saved from a lower rating by the six-year-old protagonist. 3.5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The second book in John Boyne's Elements series, Earth, is at least as good as the first, Water: a powerful short piece. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for The Wife and the Widow by Christian White (AA)https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've been listening to The Wiregrass by AA Adrian Hyland the past few days. It's a welcome follow-up to Canticle Creek, continuing the story of police officer Jesse Redpath.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished - Adrian McKinty - Rain Dogs AA #5 in the Sean Duffy series.Written in 2016 but set in 1987, McKinty includes early hints of real crimes being committed at the time, but not made public until the early 2010's.
I listen to this series on audio-book, as the writing style, dry humour and bleakness are all enhanced by the narrator.
★★★★☆

My review of
The Wiregrass by Adrian Hyland. There's a reason why Adrian Hyland is one of my favourite Aussie authors and this series is another one!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Brenda wrote: "It looks like you're going to be one ahead of me again this year Carolyn!! haha!"Sorry Brenda! I read the first one last year and decided it would be a good series to choose for the challenge. I will have to watch out I don’t give any spoilers in my reviews!
The Spy Coast, by Tess Gerritsen, is a new ensemble piece about five spies who have tried to retire quietly to a small town but discover it's not that easy. The author was inspired by real life circumstances near her, which made it even more interesting to me.

All the Ways We Lied by Aida Zilelian
Loved the Armenian and the dysfunctional family bits, but the final section messes up the whole experience.

The Book Jumper by German author Mechthild Gläser is a YA fantasy which sounds like a dream come true: the main characters get to enter the book world and meet their favourite characters. Then Amy discovers a problem in book world, a mystery she is determined to solve. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
