Christine Mathieu | 948 comments Started it this morning. I'm one third into Hannah Pick-Goslar's memoir on her time with Anne Frank which was published this year and is a true highlight among the newly published 2023 books for me.
I can highly recommend it. It's very well-written, very readable.

Rosie Robin | 13 comments Just about to start Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I put it on hold at the library and was number 69 on hold, so I assume it is sought after? Surprisingly only took me 3 months to get it. Must have a lot of copies (my local library system has about 10-15 libraries that all share.)

A friend of mine sort of pressured me into reading it it was nice but - especially later on in the series - I found it kind of silly that teenagers were the figureheads of a war movement and leading armies etc. etc. I don't want to make up your mind for you though!

I am currently reading Wuthering Heights. I am surprised by how much I am enjoying it, and I love the complexity of all of the characters. Much better than Dracula! Emily Bronte is a literary genius :)

message 90: by Dee (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments Proust and the Squid--this is your mind on BOOKS! Author Maryanne Wolf is a scholar, teacher, and advocate for children and literacy around the world. She discusses the history and development of written language from Sumeria to today's English alphabet and shows which parts of the brain have developed to understand the written word. She wonders whether tech and 30-second info shots will destroy our children's capacity for creative thinking, in the way that picture books and TV stifle creating our own scenes as filmmakers of mind.
