He has been on the road all his life, and he constantly reports on his travelling around the world and in his mind, in his beautiful style. He takes us to the ferry to Muiden, the race of Le Mans, a pub in London, a monastery in Spain, the rain of Knokke, a night cafe in the harbour of Concarneau, the Colonial Garden in Lisbon, a grave in the sea near Saint-Malo. Like no other, he knows how to connect his personal experiences and insights with the place where he is and that gives the reader a sense of great intimacy. Part I of all European travels by Cees Nooteboom covers the period 1957-1966, part II contains all European travel stories from 1967 to the now.
