Yes, Ayesha is a good one. :)

And, glad the list offers sport for choice.

Glad my list gave you some good ideas, Anne. I still need to read Eligible.

Anji | 167 comments Hi folks. Looking for another recommendation for Rita Deodato’s Bingo Challenge. I need something published this year that’s an author’s debut story.

I’ve been trying NOT to spend money on buying books for this challenge, as a way of clearing out some of the unread stuff lurking in the catacombs of my Kindle and Audible libraries. However, I suspect I may have to put my hand in my pocket in order to check off this square on my Bingo card. I don’t mind doing that if it’s a really good one, though.

Any and all thoughts and suggestions welcome.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 357 comments Anji, you can check over at Q&Q Publishing: They have a slew of books published this year and debut authors as well.

https://www.quillsandquartos.com/?utm...

Also: Meryton Press: https://merytonpress.com/

Don't forget our bloggers are always introducing debut authors.

Meredith loves to introduce new authors:

https://austenesquereviews.com/

And Rita also has previously introduced new authors.

The other bloggers may also have info for you. These are the two most often posted on GR.

Katja | 314 comments I thought this one was pretty good https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
not sure it counts, it seems to be the author's debut JAFF but on Goodreads there are two previous North and South fanfics

does it have to be a published book? do free fanfics count?

Thanks, Jeanne. Will have to investigate Q&Q and the blogs you mention. I don’t spend a lot of time on the blogs these days, as you’ll have noticed.

Thanks, Katja. It has to be published works and Austenesque only. Not sure if that would count as a debut author. Will look into that as well.

Looking at other cards, Rita has allowed those two through. It maybe that she disallowed my original choice because it was published too long ago, even though it was a debut book.

Apparently, she’s going to publish the March Bingo cards in the next few days, so I’ll wait and see if any new titles turn up. Then I’ll look at some of the samples and see what grabs my fancy.

Thanks for the info, friends!

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 357 comments I think Rita intends what is read in that month or close to it. I had one that was an ARC but she wanted me to wait until after it launched to post it. We can't count re-reads or something read in the past. I keep having to go back and look at the rules. I forget.

On GoodReads?
On Amazon?
Both?

I looked at both books and I don't find anything like that.
Is it in the Blurb?

I just encountered this for a sci-fi anthology I've been reading. It will no longer let me add notes or review it, but it will let me date it as finished. As far as I can tell, it still meets their guidelines so I have no idea why it got flagged.

It's above the book page where the add usually is.

You'll want to create a new topic (for each request) under Book & Author Page Issues for a librarian to address :)

Appreciate the help, Nicole. I'll do that. I'm likely to come across more books as I go and want to help the authors by getting their books out of book jail. :)

I

The modern one I read is Evan And Darcy
The historical is Love at First Slight

I can't remember title names, but I've seen a couple more of both modern and historical gender bender ones.

I hope so because I met the author at a Jane Austen event.

For a cozy mystery? Those are crazy high prices. I've seen kindle prices up around ten for a cozy, but not double that. I'm not sure why those are so high. Are they limited or special editions?

wosedwew | 210 comments I just saw this on FB, posted by Stevie Zimmerman

Does anyone on here have any connections high up at Amazon or Audible or ACX. My account has been closed without my permission and without notification. ACX says they can do nothing to help me for legal and security reasons as they don't recognise the email address from which I'm writing them even though it is the address I've always used to log in. Amazon's "customer service" say there is nothing they can do and that it is as if I don't exist.... I can't access ACX to upload chapters or get paid. I feel like I'm in a terrible movie. Your help much appreciated.

This is frightening. Recently another reviewer posted about issues similar to what Jeanne had with the Brazilian River.
Now this!

All I can suggest is get on there to Amazon and doggedly work to get past the AI assistant (bc that is what closes these accounts willy nilly). I'm not as familiar with Audible and not familiar at all with ACX site, but I would imagine they operate the same way.

Your library can get it for you on interlibrary loan, but probably not until it's a year old. Many libraries don't lend out new releases.

This is more than a bot not liking reviews. She isn't just a customer she is a content loader. This is insane! where is the protection for the little man?

With a million of independent publishers each year, how can anyone be assured of the 'contract' being respected. And if this can happen to anyone. Why would people choose Amazon?

Sam H. | 434 comments I wonder if its backlash against narrators who are vocal against the Virtual narration? and this is just the beginning?

message 93: by Craftyhj (last edited Jul 17, 2024 08:07AM) (new)

Craftyhj | 348 comments It sounds like a hack on her account to me.

This can also happen if someone logs on using a wifi account which has been used by someone who has been legitimately removed for dodgy practise. It is very important that people only use fully trusted networks when accessing business and financial accounts. Logging on in a coffee shop etc. or a hotel is where this problem can arise.

The most important thing is to speak to a real person to get a reason for the cancelled account, Only when that has been identified will it be possible to start the process of getting it reopened.

This is not in all honesty an "Amazon" problem. I am no defender of them but they are notoriously far more secure than many of the alternatives. We quite rightly want the security but sometimes it bites us. The rejected reviews is part of the same thing. We want to trust reviews but unfortunately the downside to getting trusted reviews is that sometimes reviews which can be trusted are identified as otherwise.

What is virtual narration? I am a digital accessibility consultant, and from the name, it sounds like a screen reader for the blind.
