Valeriya Serbinenko | 3 comments Hello!

I'm looking for the name of the children's story, that I remember from childhood.
I don't know the author or whether it's a folk story.

A little girl was sent to the fairy tale kingdom in the wallpaper over her bed by the candlelight. That is all I remember of the plot. Also, I think, it was a Scottish story, but I'm not sure.

The story amazes with fantasy and imagination. I wanted to read it to my son, but we lost the book with this story in it.

I appreciate any thoughts and suggestions.

Holly (hollylovesbooks) | 759 comments Was this a picture book or chapter book? And when did you read it? (what year?)

Some possibilities:
The Magic Wallpaper
Sailing to Cythera: And Other Anatole Stories
Eric in the Land of the Insects
Journey
100 Cupboards

Valeriya Serbinenko | 3 comments thanks for the suggestions! I'll look at these options.

The book is a chapter book, anthology of fairy tales and children's stories. It's in Russian, year of edition 1991. This morning I remembered the name of the book! It just came randomly to me.

I thought I could find only this one story from the book on goodreads in English, not the whole book.
I still don't know the name of the story, but now I can try to find the book somewhere, in secondhand bookshop or online. Other stories were great too.

Ayshe | 4721 comments Shouldn't this be in solved, given that the book is found: Сказки Кота Ученого?

I found that tale's name in Russian is "В царстве сказки " and the book is revised edition of one from 1913: https://search.rsl.ru/ru/search#q=tit...

It seems a girl, Dasha asks her candle flame where it goes after she puts it out and it tells her in the wallpaper around her bed - the kingdom of fairy tales, and takes her there?

Valeriya, if you're looking for the original tale's name, it might help if you add further details. Doesn't the book list the original names?

Moved to Solved. Not sure why this was in Abandoned.

I'm unable to add the book to the topic box, since the topic box can only be filled by typing and then auto-complete, and I can't type Russian characters. (Copying and pasting doesn't work, ridiculously.)

Fyi, copying and pasting the ISBN into the topic box works.

Curious. Entering either ISBN "5864060062" or ISBN13 "9785864060063" (even with a space at the end) on Google Chrome and Firefox seem to work on a laptop. Possibly related to an advanced browser setting?

I guess it could be a browser issue but none of the browsers I've been using over the years has enabled me to fill in the topic box by cutting/pasting, or by entering ISBN. I have to type the title and allow it to autocomplete. Only autocomplete, not hitting enter. Hitting "enter" causes the process to cancel.
