Review: I believe this was a good start to this series. I was concerned that it wasn't going to give us enough about her background for the reader to understand the why of her life at this point, but I worried for nothing. We get a clear view of what she endured through her talking about it a tad, through her issues with trust, and also through flashbacks of some of the horrific things she went through and how she got away from that.

The book is filled with mages, vampires, ghosts, and werewolves. Alice is a mage and private investigator who works with a ghost. The ghost has been bound to her, which turned out to be a good thing here. This investigation did not go exactly where I saw it going (view spoiler).

I have to admit that Alice ticked me off with her treatment of Sean, but I was glad to see that the author addressed this in the book, and that made me very happy.

There are so many reasons to continue to the next book in the series. Why is the vampire watching her so closely, what will happen in her love life, will there be a love triangle between her, the vampire, and the werewolf, will she actually have one that is productive with her inability to trust easily, what further trouble can she find herself mixed up in, will her grandfather figure out where she is and if so, what will he do?
