Glenn Ryan Hi Booktok friends,
About 10 years ago I was a very active reader and writer. I was part of a bookclub and writer's community, and was producing work that I was proud of.
Life took me down a very strange path and I drifted away from my passions. I now feel ready to pick up the metaphorical pen again, but I feel so out of touch with what's happening in the world of books.
If you can, could you throw me some recommendations that you think are outstanding examples of modern writing? I don't mind the genre, but I prefer spec fic.
I'm hoping to get inspired and back in the groove.
Many thanks if you can help. Feel free to shoot me a friend request too.
Glenn

Karsyn | 611 comments Hi Glenn! I'm not super familiar with the term spec fic, though upon a quick google search I gather that it includes Sci-Fi under it's umbrella and so in that case I have two recommendations for you! I'm a huge fan of The Martian and Project Hail Mary (big emphasis on Project Hail Mary). Sci-Fi with a sprinkle of dry humor, they're two of my faves for sure. The Martian movie too, with Matt Damon, is one of my favorite book adaptations. Happy reading!

Karsyn | 611 comments Oh I thought of another that falls under more of the dystopian subgenre of Spec Fic... The Road 👏 enjoy!
