Like The Alchemist, this story tells a tale of a very young woman's venture to find love. I wished part way through that the author hadn't chosen the profession of a prostitute, but after thinking more I decided that the profession was likely the best choice. I think my prejudices kept me from realizing the profession is prevalent among young women with few options and/or few positive influences.
Interestingly, the author mentions the painter she meets is also on the road to Santiago named like the character 'Santiago' in the Alchemist.
