Option 2

Book: Southern Magic
Author: Amy Boyles
Read by: Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon on May 31, 2023 with 3 stars
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Pages: 180
Date Read: 10/15
Rating: 4 stars
Review/Thoughts: This was such a quick cute read. Pepper is having such a bad day where one shoe keeps dropping every time she turns around. After all of the shoes dropped, she always finds out she has magic. This book was just sort of a coming into that magic and feeling sparks with an unlikely partner type of novel. It was cute. It was quick. It was HILARIOUS.

Book: Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker
Pages: 289
Date read: 21.10.23
Rating: 3 star
Review: This has been on my shelf since 2013 and although it’s not the best I have found I like ka tuckers writing. I saw the twist coming which spoiled it a bit but the last few chapters meant I liked it, This book deals with tough trauma and great friendship which made me thankful for the people in my life.

Week # 4
Kulti by Mariana Zapata
Kulti
Rating: 5 stars
Review: I really need to remind myself to read more of Mariana's books. Every single one that I've read I've wound up loving immensely. This one was so very good. The very very very slowest of burns. And almost the best of age gaps. The characters were well developed, the drama within the leagues was accurate as was the pay scales, the lack of acknowledgment for the same or higher talent in a female player to that in her male counterpart. The family portrayal in both the European and the Latino communities was so incredibly spot on - at this point I don't expect anything less from this author. It was one of those reads where you wanted to shake both characters at the same time but also didn't as they were both acting in the shape and form of their character and along their growth arc. This is a book I'm passing along to my soccer playing daughter....and thanking her for not applying to European universities THIS year. Being the soccer player that she is. I could also just SEE Harlow being Meg Rapinoe and Sal being Alex Morgan in different bodies. Final note - this is author I need to continuously recommend more often as she also has a cast of characters from all over the world in her books. Not everyone looks, acts, talks or is the same has the same background or even is always portrayed in a way you would imagine. I'm very pleased this challenge presented me with a reason to read this book.

Review/Thoughts:

Why didn't I read this sooner? I totally get the hype of it all. One of the many things I enjoyed was how much the characters fit each other - not just the protagonists but all of the side characters were written so well that I wish I could read about all of them. The spice level was written well so that it didn't take up the entire plot but was captivating.

Right Man, Right Time (The Vancouver Agitators, #3) by Meghan Quinn
Right Man, Right Time
Rating:5 stars
Review:It has been awhile since I've read an MQ book and this one had shades of some of her original Brentwood Boys books with the torment Taters was carrying around as well as the baggage Ollie had as well. I wish that we had seen a little more from Ollie's Dad - but there was such a rich story with Ollie, Taters, and everything between the two of them. I loved how the 10 years of age between them was balanced with the emotional damaged that they'd suffered at different stages of their lives and how they both reacted and recovered from it. It aged Ollie up and it leveled Silas back down into an area that he missed by dating the same woman for so long. I'd only read Pacey's story in the Agitators series so I will need to go back and read the rest of the guys stories as I am HOOOKED. Posey in particular. My lort. I can't with him. LOL. This book is good for some tears along with the laughs. Ollie's final rage quit scene is one for the books and something I think we have all wanted to do at least once in our lives. Highly recommend this read.

Review: This book has been on my TBR for years so I was glad to finally get around to reading it and I am so glad I did. Even though i had a pretty good idea how most of it was go, I was immediately drawn into Jacqueline's story and I ready pretty much the whole book in a couple of sittings. I really enjoyed Ms Webber's writing and found it easy to sink into the story. I thought the characters were well drawn out and i love the messages this book gave out. Definitely a great read

Book: The Neighbour by Lisa Gardner
Pages: 427
Date read: 6.11.23
How it fits: it’s more than 300 pages
Review: I haven’t read Lisa Gardner in a long time, so maybe I’d forgot how slow her books were or maybe it was this was one. There was a few povs and sometimes that changed in the same chapter which was very confusing. The only person I liked was the daughter Rae. And this was more about the characters than the police which I’m not a massive fan of. Overall I liked ending and liked parts of it but I hope next one in the series is better as this is number 3 and there’s now 11 out!

Week 6
Teach Me The Ropes (Bachelor Auction, #1) by Vanessa Vale
Teach Me The Ropes
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: This one was better than I thought it would be with a bit of suspense and some angst to it. I liked the pacing. I wasn't thrilled with the some of the plot lines that the author left open in this book. Perhaps she closes them in books later in this series. This is the first in the series. The story was instalove on both sides which I like. I'm not a huge fan of lack of communication nor am I a fan of an intelligent woman not being able to understand the differences in her current situation when comparing it to her past. The female character was written as being too smart to act the way she did and her actions to be stubborn and blind were purely to move the plot along in the easiest and least depthful way possible. There were plot points that were left dangling - such as why an arson was started let alone by whom. It made for a great situation for the main characters in this book and it allowed the author to bring one of the FMC's past mistakes to come into the story line; but other than that it had zero place in the story. it came out of the blue and then was rushed to close without any true closure. The male MMC was supposedly being chased by one very intent woman in town - regardless of her relationship status but other than the first few chapters where she was needed in order to built up the main characters storylines and plot, she then disappeared never to be seen or heard from again. It was a cute read. It was a good read. The main characters were strongly developed as was the world they walked around in. I would have preferred a better review and edit of the plot itself though.

Review/Thoughts: I enjoyed this book. It was a new author to me and I think that Helen Durrant did a decent job at setting up characters with personalities/stakes. I enjoyed DCI Rachel King because she was flawed - she wasn't a perfect character by any means and that felt relatable. In terms of the story line, it was fast and was easy to read. Once I got into the story and my attention was caught, I like the fast paced going of it all.

Week 8 still need:

📆Due within this week - Kat has used the PASS for this week.

I'm probably going to jinx myself - however - my travel for the year is done. My kids sports are over till after the holidays, and our daughter's college applications are all in....I'm hoping the next several weeks are "normal chaos" as we finish up November and head into the holiday season. As I'm putting that out into the universe this will of course not happen, but I can wish it into being I suppose.

If anyone needs me - feel free to message me as well. I am here to help as you need me. I'm sorry for being in and out so sporadically.
