Questions or problems with completed task posts will be posted here.

If you have questions about your points on the Readerboard:

1. Make sure that the Readerboard has been updated through the post that you are concerned about.
2. Please check your math.
3. Check to see if one of your posts is listed in this thread with a question. If so, please make a NEW POST in the Completed tasks thread to clear up the question. DO NOT go back and edit the original post. I will not go backwards in the completed task thread to pick up points.
4. To avoid further questions/problems, please refer to the TASK DESCRIPTIONS and The Rules of the Challenge.

Thank you for helping keep the record keeping for the challenge as manageable as possible.

As per the Posting Requirements, all task claims must include a link to the book edition you read.

I'll let this one go, but in future please link to the edition you read - if it doesn't exist on GR, please post in the librarian thread to ask for it to be added

Thanks! I appreciate that, but now I wonder if I have misunderstood for the last 2 years! I thought that on an audiobook or ebook we had to link a mmpb if available, otherwise pb, and if none of those, hardcover - in order to show that the book was of legitimate length. Even if there is no page count requirement for a task, we need to be able to verify the 100-page minimum. Maybe the rule has changed?

From Rules of the Challenge Fall 2022, Msg 2 #7
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you read an ebook, or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.

message 12: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1609 comments When someone has a chance, could you look at my question in Msg 8 to confirm if I am misunderstanding the rule? The way I had seen it done by other people was to link to the mmpb or paperback edition in those cases. That's why we sometimes see an edition in another language, it just had to be the first one that was found. Thanks for clarifying!

We're double checking this - trying to see if there was precedent set by DLMRose and Sandy that we can refer back to. I promise you've not been forgotten about!

message 14: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 3382 comments re audios etc, I think the custom was that you link the edition you read and (optionally) if it was ebook / audio, link the mmpb (or first valid variant) to prove length. I say optionally, as I have often linked ebooks and NOT the mmpb, unless claiming a page count, when I'd do both.
i.e. unless I need the mmpb to prove BB tix or page number task, I made the mods do a bit more work to check length.

Shall await with interest a final ruling :D

message 15: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3940 comments I understood that if you read an e book or audio you had to link both the edition read and the MMP. That is what i do for advanced reader copies, I do feel it makes posting complicated and more liable to mistakes - maybe unless it was a cover task we could just link to the physical edition

message 16: by Trish (last edited Sep 11, 2023 11:32PM) (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Marie (UK) wrote: "I understood that if you read an e book or audio you had to link both the edition read and the MMP. "

That was my understanding, too. Although I always link to the cover of the kindle edition for a cover task, if that's the one I read.

message 17: by Lucy-Bookworm, Moderator (new)

Lucy-Bookworm | 828 comments Mod
This has been interesting as I have always interpreted the rules as being that you link the actual version you read (hence the audiobook) and if you needed it specifically for a page count task (eg page count includes 123) then you'd also link to the mmpb/pb.

For Fall 2023 we will accept either the audiobook linked or the mmpb/pb linked with a note that you listened to the audio & will continue to discuss and come up with a final decision for the next season.

Valeria Faris I’m still new to the the Good Reads world and starting this Fall Reading Challenge, so how do I “post” when I finish a book? I’m not sure what to click/press if using website or app. Where do I go to post?

To ppost a completed book you need to go to this thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Have a look at how others post and copy a format that works for you.

I usually write my posting name

e.g. MAZZA1
then the task number and title
e.g. 5.1 for the horde

then the book i have read - you have to use the link at the top of this box "add book author" to add your link

then you just need to add the points for the current post and the total number of points for the challenge

To add to the above, the very first step is to get yourself a Readerboard name over in this thread: Readerboard names

Once you've done that, then you can go ahead and start claiming tasks you've finished as Marie described above :)

Task 30.4 option 2 the task wording specifically excludes the word "state"
You may not use the words state, city, beach or surf park - just the names of the beaches. You also can’t use things on the list that are not names of beaches like “access to tidepools” or “fishing pier”.
Required: State the name of the beach.

If you post in the Librarian Thread somebody will be able to help - if you can give them a link to the paperback on Amazon or a publishers website that really helps them!

I think you have misunderstood option 2 - it's a book by an author that RedSycamore has rated 5 stars not one you have rated 5 star. The list of permitted authors are at: Comment 2 in the Help Thread. Unfortunately Christine Feehan does not appear on this list
