SOLVED. YA Fantasy series, Christian themes, Two boys one girl as main characters, they travel in between their world and another world through the “thread” I believe it was called. Spoilers. [s]

I read this series somewhere around 2008. I found it in my public library and the books looked well worn when I got to them. It recall that it was a trilogy but I’m not positive on that. I believe one of the main character’s name was Eric. They travel to the other world via the “Thread” or something that goes between doorways of the worlds. It’s a classic good versus evil situation, where the three of them are helping save the other world.

One of the boys slowly turns evil and his eyes change colors to red. The other two keep their eye color, which I think was blue. The other boy ends up sacrificing himself to save the world and his friend. I vaguely remember that he comes back as an immortal/ angel type of person and sees his friends again.
