WEEK 6: Roll 1: Spot: 47
Book: Oliver's Hunger (Scanguard Vampires, Book 7)
Read: Done 4/23
Rating & Review: ★★★.
This one felt a little "simple" compared the last couple of books we have had in this series. So Oliver just got turned last book after the car accident and he is still learning to control his blood urges. He still craves human blood from the source and sneaks off to get some sips for a live source as opposed to the bottled blood Scanguards provide him.
One of his sneaking out sessions, he runs into an Asian girl who had been clearly attacked and Oliver saves her. She is revealed as Ursula, a blood slave for 3 years before she escaped. The only problem is that the Scanguard brass don't believe Ursula's story about her blood being as addictive as heroin and about a business run by vampires keeping women as blood slaves.
they are worried about Oliver who was an addict in his human life so they use subterfuge to separate Oliver and Ursula. So now it's up to Oliver to prove that Ursula is telling the truth, especially since he has fallen for her and he knows her "owner" is still hunting her.
I felt bad for Oliver because the old heads definitely treated him like a current Addict. No one trusted him or his judgment, they second guessed everything he said. It must have been awful for me. I liked him and Ursula but they weren't as hawt as Zane or Yvette's book. Also, secret of Ursula's blood made me roll my eyes. I think this book was probably my least favorite in the series.

This was good and it was quite enjoyable that the MC was in her sixties. This also meant she had a past and that comes back to haunt her when she finds the love of her life. Pru and her cousin Milly has done what they needed in their youth to get to where they are now.

This book was so creepy!! This woman really knows how to tell a story, and the last installment in the series was one of the best. I hope there are more to come! I really liked the last 4 books more than the first 3. For some reason, they didn't grab me at first but got much better. All of these books feature gruesome torture, which is a little hard to read at times, but somehow I manage to push through the nightmares because the books are so good. I was able to predict the twist in the end, but enjoyed the book even so. Now that one of the long running questions is tied up, I am excited to see where the series goes next.

WEEK 6: Roll 1:

Read: Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris
Date: 4/25/2015

Review: I love this series more than Sookie Stackhouse! I kinda feel like there is a lot less pressure for this storyline, so she's taking it into a V.C. Andrews "Flowers in the Attic" type of direction. Which is cool, I like it! I love the main character and how she can sense dead bodies, it's really cool. Plus I was reading it in a cabin in the woods and that added to the drama!

Review: I didn't think I was going to like this book, I'm not usually a serial killer or murder or horror reader but I LOVED IT! I'm not familiar with the TV show, but the book was not as graphic as I thought it would be. The characters were interesting and even humorous at times and I loved the story. Can't wait to read the next book in the series :)
WEEK 6: Roll 2: Spot: 50
Book: Confess (Standalone)
Read: Done 4/29
Rating & Review: ★★★★.
Whenever I pick up a Colleen Hoover book, I know I will get a good story. Whether or not, I care for the characters, I know it will be an emotional read and this one was no except.
Auburn Mason Reed was 20 year old girl who was trying to regain custody of her son and she applied for a job at the Art Studio owned by Owen Mason Gentry.
We learn that Auburn and Owen share a middle name. As the story progresses we learn they have a certain self-sacrificing trait that bonds them but also keeps them from moving forward in their attraction to each other.
As the author develops both Auburn and Owen, we see they are both such tenderhearted people, and they need some good karma on their side for once.
I enjoyed their ride together. It was well written, it was well paced and it was satisfying. I couldnt rate it higher because there was some background things about Adam's mom and brother that I felt were missing. Maybe their own perspective but Trey and his mom weren't quite developed well. We were just kind of expected to believe they were mean and bad. While they appeared so, I would like to see the situation from their side.
In all, this was another satisfying story from Colleen Hoover.

I really couldn't get into this book. I had no connection with the characters and the writing felt very amateur. The plot was exciting at times but lacked creativity and was nothing to write home about. Also...why does this super tough rogue CIA agent always carry a fanny pack? I gave up counting how many times he reached into his fanny pack. I checked the date and it was written in 2011, not 1990, so that really makes no sense. I don't think i'll be reading book 2 in this series.

I didn't like this book much. I don't understand why the male protagonist has to be a horrible, arrogant jerk and then end up being the extreme good guy. None of the characters in this book were the least bit interesting. There is no way I will continue this series.
We are all in today! Great job everyone.
Is there anyone who thinks they will be up at midnight? Jane, it's 7am your time right?
Can someone roll for us tonight? If I am up, I will, but I need to get more sleep :D

Review: Blah...these books are neat story and world wise, but the execution is a bit too wordy and angsty for me. She meanders and goes on and on when I'm ready to move onto the next item in the story. I'm not very patient. This needs to be a graphic novel, less words more pictures.
WEEK 7: Roll 1: Spot: 53
Book: Highland Scoundrel (Campbell Trilogy, Book 3)
Read: Done 4/29
Rating & Review: ★★★★.
It was a good conclusion to this trilogy where several clans were intertwined. One thing that has been an active theme in all 3 books is Loyalty and Clan.
Jeannie and Duncan Campbell made an entertaining couple. As individuals they started off idealistic, young and loyal to a fault. By the end of the book, they seemed a little weary and learned not everyone was loyal to family. The growth, forgiveness and acceptance made this story a fun audiobook.

Not my favorite Sophie Hannah, but still a very intriguing read. Sophie Hannah has a flair for plots that are 100% impossible to figure out due to the completely ludicrous problems that are presented to the detectives. Sometimes, I can't believe that the police force is even willing to take on some of these issues. This one was more of a straightforward murder with some craziness mixed in...it wouldn't be Sophie Hannah if there weren't completely illogical women in the story. I read this one fast because I had to, but it wasn't one that I couldn't put down, like the previous books in this series. Also, I am kind of mystified by Simon's deep hatred for his boss (and everyone else.) It seems to be overkill...I'm not sure that I like Simon much, but I think he's just really weird :)

This was good. Amber is a strong character. I like that this is not a typical vampire story. Amber was bitten by a vampire, was supposed to be dead, but is still alive. Nobody knows if or when she is going to turn but the military still lets her get out to hunt vampires, though they are keeping a close eye on her. I have added this series to my ever growing TBR pile of books.

This attempt marks the third attempt at listening to this book. I have heard such glowing things about it but unfortunately, I was unable to connect with the characters.
I can see why people would enjoy Jessica Trent as she isn't the typical HR heroine. She is witty, intelligent, resourceful and seemingly fearless. Engaging the Marquess of Dain in her auction was in service of freeing her brother from Sebastian's svengali influence.
Sebastian Ballister finally met his match and they volleyed back and forth as their attraction grew.
I don't know why but I never engaged or connected with their journey. It wasn't a bad story, I am just indifferent about it.

Review: I love P.C. Cast, but this series has not impressed me so far. It's growing on me and I'm hoping it gets better the more her daughter writes. As I read these books, I keep thinking I would've liked these a lot better in middle school instead of my mid-30s.

Review:
This is a memoir about three women meeting up in real life after having gotten to know each other on social media, on an author place. It is a quite funny book about the planning and execution of how and where to meet. Even though they are all British, only one live in the UK, the others in Italy and France. They plan to meet in France.
My main problem with this book is that they kept hinting at events that has happened in their lives prior to this meeting. Events that has been described in the books they each have published. I think it should say in the blurb to read those books first if you want the full value of this book.

Review:
This was definitely not my favorite of the series. I kept waiting for something to happen. I don't know why, because nothing really ever HAPPENS in these books, which is part of their charm, but this one just way out of left field. Basically, this boy runs away from his home in Maine and seeks out Tom Ripley in France...for some random reason having to do with him being an art dealer...and probably killing several people in the past. Ripley takes a liking to this boy. A genuine liking...I mean he didn't even try to exploit his family in any way. There were definitely undertones of Ripley being homosexual, which is never actually stated in any of the books...but we all know that he is, despite his adoration of his wife. This book, like most of the series, is very dark and also...not. I gave it two stars because of the randomness of the boy and the fact that NOTHING HAPPENED!
