Yes, I will reach out to her!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11062 comments I am moving Ellen to #94, In an Instant. It has great reviews, and I want to read it too. Ellen has already read 31 books on this board, so she deserves a little boost!

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments Rolls for 6/19:

Sue 3
Joanne 4
Kate 6-2
Joy 5
Ellen 1
Hannah 6-4
Heather 4-1

message 358: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments @Hannah,

Your advantage is determined by finding the most recent Footnotes post on which you made a comment. Look at the total number of comments, and you will move that far. The move may be made when you wish, but you need to determine the number now (so the Footnote needs to be one that originated before 6/19).

I realize I should have replied directly to this note, Nancy.

Just wanted to make sure you saw my message from earlier:

Nancy,

You need to take your roll (to which you can add any special things you want, read the book and then move back 3 and read the book.

OR

You can move back 3 first, read the book, and then take your 1 (plus any specials you care to add to it).

You aren’t just a net minus 2 as you seem to indicate.

Yes, I saw it. I erased the wrong entry on my tracking log earlier, but I haven't updated it with the new moves. I have family in town so I'll figure out what I'm going to read later.

message 362: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12568 comments Anita, the book I landed on is currently out, not due back until July-I am going to wait on it for a few days, as it has been out for a few weeks now and could come back in anytime. Anyway, I need a reminder, if I read #18 (which I can get tomorrow) do I count from 18 when I roll again?

No rush, I just didn't want there to be confusion or for you to start a book that didn't work.

So let's say you landed on 19 and you can't get the book or you read it already. So you decide to read 18. You still stay on 19, and you move forward from 19.

I have to agree with Joanne.

CGI Tom has the Cabanna Boys, firefighters, and rest of the Subdue Express staff compiling a list of all the special advantages granted and updating it going forward. Once checked twice and stamped as complete by Joanne, there will be at year end a vote on which was cleverest, favorite, etc. The imagination has to be acknowledged, honored.

Sue | 2713 comments Adding to my roll, I'll be using a "move one space" granted to me when I landed on a book tagged "indigenous" on 5/17.

I'll note this on my board.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11062 comments Joanne/Anita- I moved +1 to 88 (which is where you show me on the consolidated board), and I'm reading a swap for that book now. Soon I'll move - 3 for my Sunday shakeup, and I'll use a 1 space reward (from April 17) to reach 86. Honor.

I'm still in clerk level... but I thought you could only use your awards in combination with a roll. Didn't know you could use it with Shake It Up Sunday or if you got moved back as leader, or if another player moved you. I'll have to pay closer attention when (if) I get to porter.

No, BC, you are correct. Unless it is an award earned with a 6-4 which specifies it can be used anytime (after completing a book).

Nancy, can you please take note that after you move back 3, you need to read the book there (stay on the space). And then you may request a roll and add your 1 to that roll.

message 378: by Theresa (last edited Jun 20, 2023 09:07AM) (new)

Theresa | 15510 comments I was just coming to get clarification myself, as given my double Shake Me Up that put me back on the Clerk board, I have re-read the rules on this very closely:

The rule: Every Sunday will be "Shake It Up Sunday". Everyone on a board above Clerk (Novice) will be entered into the randomizer. The person selected will roll the die, and move backward whatever number is rolled on their next turn. The book on that space must be read and reviewed before progressing forward again. (emphasis added)

Rewards and advantages are moves forward, not Get Out of Jail Free cards - to draw from another board game. 😅

Anita,

What a fun special advantage! So, I think I've understood this right. The last Footnotes post I commented on was Amazon's best books of the year (thus far), and it currently has 18 comments:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I have just finished and reviewed the book I landed on yesterday, so I would like to use this special advantage now, as it has already had one comment removed since yesterday, and I don't want to wait to use it for more comments to be removed.

I'm not sure if I need to request a roll at the same time and move forward 18+ my roll, or if I should just move forward from my current step (19) to step 37 and read that book before requesting my next roll. If I do need to include it with my next roll, I'm ready for that roll now.

Thank you, and I hope that all makes sense!

message 381: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Sorry, if I wasn’t clear. I was reading on the consolidated game boards, and at the end of the clerk level, it has all of the people who have finished. I’m not on the list even though I have finished. And I probably finished right around May 20, where there is a Space with a question mark. So I assume that is me. So that’s what I was wondering, is, if that space was indeed me.

The deleted comment may be counted. I have independent verification that there were 19 comments.

For the 6-4 awards, those are the exception to the rule that they must be with a roll. Those are truly to be used when you wish.

Ahhh, I see what you mean now. I think that was me. I wasn't clear if you finished or not on 5/20. I put that question mark there just because I wasn't sure if the book was completed. I then forgot to delete it. I'll fix that asap.

You did, Joanne. I just misunderstood something about it at some point, and I put a question mark on the consolidated board. And then I forgot to take it away once I was clear.

So all my fault!!

LOL. Relax everyone. Theresa, I know you’re just trying to help Anita, but you’re contradicting what she has said to us all year regarding the order of the shake-ups and the rolls. She has always given us a choice of the order when they occur close together like this, and she specifically gave me the choice yesterday (or the day before). We don’t have jail in this game, but I’ll be back in the caboose soon enough, so you can have Tom torture me with his attention.

If the new rule about adding rewards is now applied to shakeups too, I can change the order of the moves to comply. In this situation it won’t matter. So, I will go back three spaces first, and read my SWAP book. Then I will take my +1 roll, and add a +1 reward and read #86. I’ll read the same books, in the same order, and I’ll end up in the same exact sweet spot, with Honor.

Actually, BC asked in #376 and Anita confirmed in #377 the rule which are the comments I responded to: that you can't add advantages or awards to Shake it up moves and that those awards apply only at time of your roll requests, and that was the clarification I was looking for after you posted you were adding an earned plus one to the Shake it up roll back spot to get to the next book.

If I could avoid another double shake it up in the future that takes me back to a prior board thus having to roll off again, I want to know so I can save and not use awards as I earn them. But seems we are simply at the mercy of Ursula the Contrary Randomizer.

I am sincerely glad you are getting to a book you really want to read now. I have my eye on a book at the beginning of my Porter board I could use in another challenge that I hope I land on when I finally roll off Clerk for the second time.

I don't know about CGI Tom, but how are you with cats? Gnarly in Baggage Claim has moved past pining for Amy to downright hissing and snarling at everyone, even Joy. We might set you to Gnarly-taming once you hit Baggage Claim again. A fresh supply of Meowy Wowwy catnip pillows has been ordered - the taming weapon of choice.

'Stuck' in Caboose!? I think you now have fences to mend Miss Amy with the Cabanna Boys if you ever expect you drink refilled ever again while there or your togo thermas filled with cocktails and box lunch filled with goodies other than the stale egg salad sandwiches deliberately left out on the buffet all day.

Oh no! I’m sneezing and itching at the mere mention of a cat. Benadryl helps, but it makes me too groggy.

My sister in law rescues cats. If anyone can get that cat a new home (or get it to go in another car) she can. I wonder if catnip is anything like pot. ( It’s legal now and anyone can get it at the reservation along with low priced gas. )
