cody love (codycoyote) Read in 2020/2021. The main character is a young/teen girl. She's part of some society(??) thing along with her dad I think? Members of the society get a magic key that can open some walls like doors. They can sense where a slit in a wall is and those are the places they can turn their keys. When the walls open they lead to this complex maze-like area with doors all along the walls that are different entrances and exits. Some are marked with an X which means there's something on the other side that should not be let out. Some lead to the giant archive/library area with scrolls maybe? I think members of the society solve mysteries or something? The main girl moves into an apartment complex and one of her neighbors is a goth loser friendless boy who's obviously the love interest. They go to the same school I think and the boy references Dante's Inferno multiple times because he has to read it over the summer. On the first day back at school, he sends her a text of the front gates with a quote. Later when the girl is walking through the door maze, she passes a door with an X on it and something inside it calls to her mind. It wants her key (to let itself out of the door). The girl also might be able to see the past through objects and touches the floor in her room and sees some crime? The conflict revolves around her passing the X door repeatedly, each time getting closer to unlocking it because the male entity behind it has conversations with her and she starts to like him. She eventually unlocks it and the thing has a knife and was obviously manipulating her. The goth loser boy somehow gets into the maze area and saves her (maybe he also has a key?). I have no idea how the events are separated between the 2 books and I might be mixing a third unrelated book into this (my bad if so).
