Currently reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, one of the classic group’s May reads. While I have seen the Bogart/Bacall movie a few times, I’ve not read the book. About a fourth into it so far.

Here is my 4.28 rounded to 4 stars review of The Poisoner's Ring
by Kelley Armstrong:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This historical mystery with a time travel aspect is even better in the second book in the series.
Here is my 4.36 rounded to 4 stars review for Wolf on the Wild Side: Sexy Shifter Romance
by Terry Spear:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is the first book in the Run with the Wolf paranormal romantic suspense series. However, it is set in the same town in Colorado as some of the author's other series. Overall, the novel was intriguing, intense, and contemporary. It was well crafted, paced well, and entertaining; with the suspense that I enjoy in this genre.
Here's my 4.29 rounded to 4 stars review of Her Dark Grave
by Carolyn Arnold:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Police Procedural
Once again, Carolyn Arnold has penned a strong and impactful tale. Overall, this was a story that captivated me from the first page to its last. The author did a great job of building suspense throughout the story and weaving the threads together.
My review for
Outback: The Desmond Bagley Centenary Thriller by Michael Davieshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished four non-cozies this week, all great reads.
* The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Noir mystery. Gritty and dark, but I liked all the twists. Now I’m wanting to see the movie again.
* Iggie's House by Judy Blume. Middle grade. Though published in 1970, the subject matter is all too relevant today and this book has been challenged as recently as 2021.
*The Moon Is Down by John Steinbeck. World War II propaganda that was widely translated and distributed in occupied territories. Possessing it was illegal. Short but enjoyable, considering that it was written as propaganda.
* Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. Children’s book and Caldecott winner. How could anyone not like this one?

I am reading Edinburgh Dusk
by Carole Lawrence. Set in 1880 Edinburgh, Scotland. Book 2 in the series. Good mystery and series. I am enjoying the series.
I'm reading Hard Magic Larry Correia. It's the first in the series and I'm really enjoying it. It's a bit like his other series, but I enjoy that one too. He's a funny author.
Here is my 4.21 rounded to 4 stars review of Peril
by Kat Martin, Alexandra Ivy, and Rebecca Zanetti: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Romantic Suspense
Overall, this fantastic trio of novellas has three wonderful couples facing a gang of criminals in very different situations. It’s emotionally-charged, suspenseful, and entertaining.
Here is my 4.16 rounded to 4 stars review of Identity Identity by Nora Roberts:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Romantic Suspense
Overall, this was a story that quickly pulled me into the narrative and the lives of Morgan and those around her. While the pacing isn’t as brisk as some romantic suspense novels, the author did a great job of building suspense throughout the story and I enjoyed the journey. She is a superb storyteller that intermingled the ever-present threat that was looming over Morgan and the rebuilding of her life. I would love to see this become a series.
Here is my 4.59 rounded to 5 stars review of Second Shot
by Cindy Dees:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Action Thriller - first book in a new series
What a fabulous start to a new series! Cincy Dees, a new-to-me author, has created an exciting action-packed and suspenseful thriller with a more mature main character. Overall, this fantastic novel is shocking, emotionally-charged, and pulse-pounding.
I listened to The Postman Always Rings Twice
narrated by Stanley Tucci. It was very intense!I also listen to A Rip Through Time
for the 52 Book Club Challenge. It had an interesting premise but the ending was weak and felt like a set up for a sequel. Which of course it was. I have a problem with time travel books that acknowledge the hazards of time travel and then promptly ignore those hazards. SIGH! Setting that aside, the book was very enjoyable and I plan to read the sequel.
Here is my 4 star review of Twice as Hot by Gena Showalter:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Paranormal Romantic Suspense / Urban Fantasy
This is a story that combines romance, suspense, and action with humor. A fiery and intense protagonist, a manipulative ex-wife, a supervillian antagonist, and great secondary characters are combined with a compelling story line, exciting scenes, and a plot with a few twists and turns.
Here is my 4.15 rounded to 4 stars review of Dead Drop
by M.P. Woodward:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Espionage thriller
The premise of the story felt all too real to me, making it thought-provoking and believable. From the shocking prologue to the tension-filled middle to the action-filled conclusion, this story captivated me. Overall, this book was intense, briskly paced, suspenseful, and a powerful page-turner.
I am currently reading
I've really enjoyed all the other books this Charles Lenox series, so I'm sure this one will be just as good.
Here is my 4.11 rounded to 4 stars review of Marrying Off Morgan McBride
by Amy Barry:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Historical Romance - Western Setting - 1887
Both the characterization and the world-building were great. Overall, it was an entertaining, heartwarming, and funny novel with some deeper themes embedded into the story line.
Here is my 4.18 rounded to 4 stars review of The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies
by Alison Goodman:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Historical Mystery with a bit of romance.
It's funny, dark, and highlights some of the social issues of the Regency period in England. It features financially independent 42-year-old twin sisters Lady Augusta (Gus) Colebrook and Lady Julia Colebrook who decide to help women in need. This often requires some amateur sleuthing and some danger.
Here is my 4.46 rounded to 4 stars review of The Book Spy
by Alan Hlad:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this story is intriguing, thought-provoking, suspenseful, and exciting. The author delivers a heartfelt story of love, loss, sacrifice, and duty. It's is a captivating and fascinating historical thriller with some romance.

This post-apocalyptic science fiction novel is emotionally-charged, unique, intense, challenging, and thought-provoking, with fantastic world-building and great characterization. It’s creative and is captivating with its unpredictable plot. This was very close to a 4 star rating for me. The pacing in the first half of the novel is what lowered it to 3 stars for me.
