The main character is in the girl's point of view and her lover used to be cursed into a ferret by her grandmother.
This book might be a series and the one I read is about a Duke and his family and the FMC was invited to stay with them.
The end of the book is the Duke's older sister who was going to be the Duchess finally becoming one after the Duke is incapable of running the place.
The Duchess seemed to have a dog with her that she feed soup from a ladle in the kitchen and got doggy saliva all over at one point in the book.
