Watch tomorrow Saturday as the final afternoon tea is served! It should sooth all who over-indulge today.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12568 comments Got off the train to have Corned Beef and Cabbage/Carrots with my daughter, her BFF, and the husband-and of course Miss Lola. Irish Whiskey, a couple Guinness and good food and lots of laughs

An exclusive coming to the Subdue Express all day Saturday, March 18th, as the final formal tea being served for the week...
Direct from London's Taj Hotel...

Their fabulous Indian Jasmine Tea! Especially perfect accompaniment to anyone reading an India book to blow out a Birthday Candle!

*These photos are from dear friend whose husband treated her to this tea on her birthday yesterday.

message 207: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15509 comments The menu has Gunpwder tea as an option. A book I read recently set I believe in 18th Century England frequently mentioned Gunpowder tea being drunk by the aristocratic hero, a tea which I have never had. Did some research and discovered it is a luxury tea, actually, as each leaf is rolled into a small round pellet. Here is a basic Wikipedia article about it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpo...

Next time I am in a fancy tea shop, or see it offered in a formal tea, will have to try it.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4762 comments I am ready for another roll. I think I get 3 dice on this roll.

My last book was 576 pages - Six Four and it was tagged Japan 193 times so I think that gives me two extra dice.

Thanks.

Thank you! I've made a new board for the second engineer round.

Can I have my first roll on that board, please?

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments Rolls for 3/18:

Diana 1-3
Sabrina 4-2
Olivermagnus 6-5 plus 1-5
Joy 1
Hannah 3
Jen 4-3

Diana, you will be moving Doughgirl with your special roll. Please let me know what you decide to do there.

Hannah, Joy rolled a 1-1, so you, as the leader are impacted. Please read your book at the 3 spot, and then you will begin your engineer board anew (since Joy's roll moved you back three spaces).

message 217: by Joy D (last edited Mar 18, 2023 12:15PM) (new)

Joy D | 10073 comments Anita, That is a 1-1 from my last 2 rolls for me. Just FYI. Not sure how that impacts Hannah, if at all, since she just started a new board.

You get an extra die for the 500 pages, yes. See above, you got a 6-5 for that.

and then for more than 100 taggers you get to roll 2 dice. So your additional roll for the taggers is:

1-5

So a total of 17.

I wasn't super clear in the instructions, but it's two incremental dice for the "more than 100 taggers".

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments Joy D wrote: "Anita, That is a 1-1 from my last 2 rolls for me. Just FYI. Not sure how that impacts Hannah, if at all, since she just started a new board."

Oh, thank you for alerting me. I don't usually catch these single rolls until I enter them into the spreadsheet I keep behind the scenes, so that's helpful.

Hannah will need to read her book at three and then move back to the start of her new engineer board. So basically 3 - return to 0 - roll her next roll.

Amy | 12913 comments It occurs to me when we are this close to figuring out the tag and the trim, that it might as well serve to wait a couple of days before looking at my list of books to choose from from somebody else’s shelf. Because if I get to read some thing from trim anyway, it’s highly likely it’s already on somebody else’s shelf and I don’t have to add an extra book. Like I bet whatever it is, that pops up, I can find it on someone’s shelf. This feels like a good way to manage these wicked 11’s that keep coming up for me. I did get a few things out of the library, and ordered some that haven’t arrived yet. I look for my new 69 in a bunch of airports. I did see it at the airport a good couple of weeks ago. Now it’s suddenly disappeared. And the library has like 41 holes. I could just go to the bookstore, or go with Amazon, but I just have a feeling that if I wait a few days, this thing is gonna pop up in an airport. And it’s gonna be so clear with my other subdue choice is. So I am hanging tight for subdue for the moment. Getting ready for my in real life book club on April 2, where we are getting to do the light we carry, which I’m gonna assume is a best seller. And that’s a bonus, Atlas of the heart, which I know is a best seller. I’m cool with friendship too, as my pick for friendship is on a bunch of people’s subdue lists. And just takes care of that. I have plenty of things for friendship. I even have her paranormal romance.

I’m really interested to hear what you think about it. When I was looking for Japan books, it was the one that I added that I was least sure of.

I just posted. I can see why. I'll admit I only picked it because it was so short. I'll be interested in what you think if you read it.

 Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4762 comments I'm ready for another 🎲 dice roll. I think I should get either 3 or 5 dice.

My last book was tagged Japan by 155 people - 2 dice
https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...

My last roll was a 6-5 so I chose Hotel Iris from Hannah's shelf. Does that also count for the purpose of tags and dice rolls? It was tagged Japan by 159 people.

Books read from someone else's shelf do not count because you get to choose them. The 6-5 roll is supposed to be slowing you down, lol. Not giving an advantage unfortunately.

Thanks. That makes sense if I had given it any thought. That also includes participation points, I assume.

You are welcome to post your read/review in the regular thread to grab the two participation points outside of Subdue the Shelf. But there are no rewards within the game when you read a book off of someone else's shelf.

I thought it was a good question actually. Gives me a chance to explain my thought process at the time of making the rules!

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments Shake It Up Sunday

This week, for a change of pace, it is not Ellen, but rather:

Nancy

Nancy, please move back 2 spaces after you complete your current book.

Just remember Amy that your 6+5=11 extra read is a book from a player's GAMEBOARD, not shelf. It can be any level GAMEBOARD.

You are confusing with blowing out one of the candles.

message 241: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments No confusion. I looked at all the game boards on every level. I have a whole list of things that can use. And even a book with me in Indiana. Something from Charlotte’s shelf.

message 242: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Did I accidentally use the wrong word? I did not mean to confuse. I might be low tech, but I generally understand how things work -lol. Deeply analytical mind, with great executive functioning. And I think I’m getting better with technology. I mean I do manage to navigate the world pretty much. That was a cool trick with the building that you guys taught me.

message 243: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12053 comments So rolling a 7, I will read the one before the one I landed on.

message 244: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments See I think I did it again. I meant Charlotte’s game board. Want to know what it is? It’s Skye Falling. Truth is, this one came in from the library quick enough for me to take it with me. There was at least three or four other books I would have rather picked up to take with me on this trip. But this one gets the job done, so I can roll the dice again after the Villa.
